The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is a NCAA Division I conference. The WAC covers a broad expanse of the Western United States with member institutions located in Arizona, California, Texas, Utah and Washington.

The venue opened in April 1994 as a baseball stadium with the name The Ballpark in Arlington, serving as the home for the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball from 1994 through 2019. It replaced the nearby Arlington Stadium, and was succeeded by Globe Life Field.
The Southland Conference, abbreviated as SLC, is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the South Central United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division I for all sports; for football, it participates in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Southland sponsors 18 sports, 10 for women and eight for men, and is governed by a presidential Board of Directors and an Advisory Council of athletic and academic administrators. Chris Grant became the Southland's seventh commissioner on April 5, 2022. From 1996 to 2002, for football only, the Southland Conference was known as the Southland Football League.
Whataburger Field is a minor league baseball stadium located in Corpus Christi, Texas, United States. It is home to the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. It also serves as a secondary home to the Texas A&M–Corpus Christi Islanders college baseball team in addition to their own on-campus Chapman Field.

North Texas Mean Green represents the University of North Texas (UNT) in intercollegiate athletics. The teams compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). North Texas competed in the Sun Belt Conference and Conference USA before joining the American Athletic Conference on July 1, 2023. UNT's official school colors are Green and White. North Texas' mascot is an Eagle named Scrappy.
The Texas State Bobcats are the sports teams that represent Texas State University. Currently, they compete in the Sun Belt Conference in NCAA Division I. The Bobcat has been the mascot of Texas State University since 1921, when the university adopted the name from the recommendation of a committee formed to raise school spirit. Though considerably smaller than mountain lions, bobcats are known for their stubborn fierceness and great courage. The football squad used the bobcat for the first time in 1921 and went undefeated with a 7–0 season. Texas State had several officially recognized live bobcat mascots until the 1970s.
The UT Arlington Mavericks are the athletic teams that represent the University of Texas at Arlington in Arlington, Texas. The Mavericks currently compete in the NCAA Division I Western Athletic Conference in 15 varsity sports. The number rose to 15 in the fall of 2017 women's golf began their first season of competition that athletic season.

The UT Arlington Mavericks men's basketball team is an NCAA Division I college basketball team competing in the Western Athletic Conference. Home games are played at College Park Center, located on the University of Texas at Arlington's campus in Arlington. The team appeared in the 2008 NCAA tournament, losing against the #1 seed Memphis in the first round, although Memphis was later forced to vacate the win due to infractions committed by the program.
The 2011–12 Texas–Arlington Mavericks men's basketball team represented the University of Texas at Arlington during the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mavericks, led by sixth year head coach Scott Cross, played their home games at Texas Hall until the completion of the brand new College Park Center in February and are members of the West Division of the Southland Conference. The Mavericks were Southland West Division Champions and overall regular season champions but failed to win the Southland Basketball tournament after falling in the semifinals to McNeese State. As regular season champions, they received an automatic bid into the 2012 National Invitation Tournament where they lost in the first round to Washington. The 24 wins was the most wins in program history.

The 2012 Southland Conference baseball tournament took place from May 23 through 26. The top eight regular season finishers of the league's twelve teams met in the double-elimination tournament held at Texas State University–San Marcos's Bobcat Ballpark in San Marcos, Texas. Texas–Arlington won their third Southland Conference Baseball Championship by a score of 13–4 and earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division I baseball tournament.
Ty Lee Harrington is an American former baseball player and coach. He served as the head baseball coach at Texas State University from 2000 through the 2019 season. Under Harrington, the Texas State Bobcats to three NCAA tournament appearances, two Southland Conference baseball tournament championships, and three Southland Conference baseball regular season championships. Harrington is the most victorious coach in program history.
Allan Saxe Field is the home of the UTA Mavericks softball team located in Arlington, Texas. As a result of a complete reconstruction in 2014–15, the stadium currently has a capacity of 622. Prior to the renovation, the softball facility had a seating capacity of 250. Adjacent to Clay Gould Ballpark, the stadium is located at the intersection of W. Park Row Drive and Fielder Road.

The winner of the tournament, Texas State, earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division I baseball tournament.
The 2010 Southland Conference tournament was held at Bobcat Softball Complex on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, from May 13 through 15, 2010. The tournament winner, McNeese State earned the Southland Conference's automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division I softball tournament. The Championship game was broadcast over the regionally syndicated Southland Conference Television Network for the first time with the remainder of the tournament airing on the Southland Digital Network. Doug Anderson and LaDarrin McClane called the games.
