The African Beat is a jazz album by Art Blakey and the Afro-Drum Ensemble recorded for Blue Note on January 24, 1962 and released later that year. [5]
He described it as the first opportunity he had to work with drummers from Africa; as a blend of American jazz with the traditional rhythms and tonal colors in the percussion of that continent. The album features compositions by African and American musicians, all based on aspects of West African (especially Nigerian) music. [6]

In its album review, Billboard wrote of Compulsion!!!!!, "The wild, yet disciplined piano of Andre [sic] Hill is the driving force behind this strange and moving record." It was remastered by Rudy Van Gelder in 2006. Featured musicians include trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, tenor saxophonist John Gilmore, bassist Cecil McBee and drummer Joe Chambers.

The album would be the next-to-last studio session led by the trumpeter. Una Mas features three compositions by Dorham himself. An outtake from the session, the ballad "If Ever I Would Leave You", comes from the Broadway musical Camelot.

Solomon Gbadegesin Ilori is a Nigerian drummer and percussionist who moved to New York City in 1958 and collaborated with jazz artists such as Art Blakey and Harry Belafonte before recording his debut album for Blue Note Records in 1963.
African High Life is the debut album by Nigerian drummer and percussionist Solomon Ilori recorded in 1963 and released on the Blue Note label. The album was reissued on CD in 2006 with three bonus tracks recorded at a later session.
