Thersistrombus is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Strombidae, the true conchs. [1]
Species within the genus Thersistrombus include:
Strombidae, commonly known as the true conchs, is a taxonomic family of medium-sized to very large sea snails in the superfamily Stromboidea, and the Epifamily Neostromboidae. The term true conchs, being a common name, does not have an exact meaning. It may generally refer to any of the Strombidae but sometimes is used more specifically to include only Strombus and Lambis. The family currently includes 26 extant, and 10 extinct genera.
Strombus is a genus of medium to large sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the family Strombidae, which comprises the true conchs and their immediate relatives. The genus Strombus was named by Swedish Naturalist Carl Linnaeus in 1758. Around 50 living species were recognized, which vary in size from fairly small to very large. Six species live in the greater Caribbean region, including the queen conch, Strombus gigas, and the West Indian fighting conch, Strombus pugilis. However, since 2006, many species have been assigned to discrete genera. These new genera are, however, not yet found in most textbooks and collector's guides.
The Vermetidae, the worm snails or worm shells, are a taxonomic family of small to medium-sized sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the clade Littorinimorpha. The shells of species in the family Vermetidae are extremely irregular, and do not resemble the average snail shell, hence the common name "worm shells" or "worm snails".
Thiaridae, common name thiarids or trumpet snails, is a family of tropical freshwater snails with an operculum, aquatic gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Cerithioidea.
Neritopsidae is a family of small sea snails and freshwater snails in the clade Cycloneritimorpha.
Ampullinidae are a mostly extinct taxonomic family of sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the clade Caenogastropoda.
Lobatus is a genus of very large sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Strombidae, the true conchs. Some of the species within this genus were previously placed in the genus Eustrombus.
Pterygia is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the subfamily Cylindromitrinae of the family Mitridae.
Scabricola is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Mitridae.
Amalda obtusa is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Ancillariidae.
Amalda rubiginosa is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Ancillariidae.
Neritopsis is a genus of sea snails in the subfamily Neritopsinae of the family Neritopsidae.
Erronea is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Cypraeidae, the cowries.
Zonaria is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod molluscs in the subfamily Zonariinae of the family Cypraeidae, the cowries.
Thersistrombus thersites, common name : the thersite conch, is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Strombidae, the true conchs.
Monoplex is a genus of predatory sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Cymatiidae.
Cerithiovermetus is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Vermetidae, the worm snails or worm shells.
Contradusta is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Cypraeidae, the cowries.
Conomurex is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Strombidae, the true conchs.
Titanostrombus is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Strombidae, the true conchs.
