Third World Romance is a 2023 Filipino romance film written and directed by Dwein Baltazar. [1] Produced by Black Sheep Productions, it stars Carlo Aquino and Charlie Dizon. [2] It was released theatrically on 16 August 2023. [3]

Contents

The film is about Britney (Dizon) and Alvin (Aquino), blue-collar workers who meet at the height of the Covid pandemic. They become co-employees at a grocery store, but their budding romance is beset by persistent economic difficulties.

Production

The film was announced by Black Sheep Productions. [4] Carlo Aquino and Charlie Dizon was cast to appear in the film. [5] The trailer of the film was released on July 31, 2023. [6] [7] The film was screened at the 19th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival [8] as the closing film. [9]

The 19thCinemalaya Independent Film Festival was held from August 4 – 13, 2023 in Metro Manila, Philippines with the theme being “IlumiNasyon” (illumination). A total of ten full-length features and ten short films competed. The festival was opened by the film Where is the Lie? by Quark Henares and its closing film was Third World Romance by Dwein Baltazar. This year, the festival proper was held at the Philippine International Convention Center instead of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, its annual venue, due to the latter being under renovation until 2025.
