This Side of Paradise is the second extended play (EP) by American singer and actress Hayley Kiyoko, and it was co-released by herself and Steel Wool Records on February 3, 2015. [1] The entire album was written and recorded by Kiyoko along with producer and multi-instrumentalist James Flannigan and is described as a pop record. [3] The EP was preceded by the release of the single "This Side of Paradise" on September 29, 2014. [2]

Composition

Each song on the EP is "'80s pop and inject[ed] with modern flavor." [4] The total duration of the album is 18 minutes and 16 seconds. During an interview to Billboard, Kiyoko said: "I think every track of the EP is really a piece of me, of what I have felt growing up, from a child to a young adult," and also "The outcome of this EP is worth so much more to me because it was really built from the ground up." [4]

Singles

"This Side of Paradise" was released on September 29, 2014 as the EP's lead single. [2] Its music video was released on November 12, 2014 and was directed by RJ Sanchez. [5] "Girls Like Girls" was released with a music video as the second single on June 24, 2015, directed by Kiyoko and Austin S. Winchell. Currently, the video already has more than 100 million views. [6] The EP's third and final single, "Cliff's Edge", was released on November 4, 2015 alongside a music video.

The Stunners

The Stunners was an American pop girl group, formed in Los Angeles, California in 2007. Originally the members were Allie Gonino, Hayley Kiyoko, Marisol Esparza, Kelsey Sanders, and Tinashe. In July 2009, after the debut single "Bubblegum", Sanders left the group and was replaced by Lauren Hudson. The group split up in 2011.

After finishing third on the second season of The X Factor US the group was signed to Epic Records though Syco Music. Less than a year later, Fifth Harmony released their debut single from their debut extended play, "Miss Movin' On". The single charted on the Mainstream Top 40 and New Zealand, peaking at 27 in both countries. It was certified Gold in the United States for selling combined sales and track-equivalent streams units of 500,000. Walk the Moon was formed in 2006 in Cincinnati, Ohio as Wicked in the Mix, originally consisting of Nicholas Petricca, Adam Reifsnyder, Sam Cole and Ricky Human, the former two having attended Kenyon College together. Cari Elise Fletcher, known mononymously by her last name, is an American singer and songwriter. Fletcher's breakthrough single "Undrunk" was released in January 2019 and became her first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, and reached number one on Spotify's Viral Chart in the United States. "Undrunk" was released on her extended play You Ruined New York City for Me, and according to Mediabase, the song was the fastest-rising song at pop radio for a new artist since 2014. Spotify ranked the song as one of the "Best Pop Songs of 2019".
