Thomas R. Allen (born 1952) is a judge within the Illinois Circuit Court of Cook County. He was sworn in on December 6,2010. [1] Prior to his judgeship,he was Alderman of the 38th Ward of Chicago,serving since 1993.
Allen graduated from Illinois Benedictine College and Kent College of Law. After graduation,he worked as a criminal defense attorney for 17 years.
Allen served as an administrative and legislative assistant to Alderman Thomas Cullerton before succeeding him.[ citation needed ]
Currently,Allen is active in several community organizations:the Portage Park Advisory Board,the Irving Park YMCA,the Sunshine Activity Center for Mentally Handicapped,and the Polish American Police Association.
Allen was appointed Alderman in 1993 by Mayor Richard M. Daley to complete the term of Thomas Cullerton,who died in office after a long illness. [2] Allen was elected to a full term in 1995,and re-elected in 1999,2003,and 2007.
As Alderman,Allen was concerned about illegally converted rooming houses. To combat this,Allen created a task force to identify,investigate,and close illegal rooming houses.
Allen was chairman of the Transportation and Public Way Committee. He also served on seven other committees:Aviation;Budget and Government Operations;Buildings;Committees,Rules and Ethics;Economic,Capital and Technology Development;Finance;and Zoning.
In 2008 Allen was found to be one of seven Chicago aldermen who between them got ten of their children good-paying summer jobs with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. [3]
In 2008,Allen unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination in the election for Cook County State's Attorney.
In 2010 Allen cosponsored an ordinance with 30th Ward Alderman Ariel Reboyras that designated a stretch of Central Avenue in the vicinity of its intersection with Belmont Avenue as "Honorary Lech Kaczynski Way" to honor the deceased Polish President. [4]
After Cullerton resigned from the City Council to assume his judgeship,Mayor Daley appointed his brother-in-law Timothy Cullerton to succeed him. [5]
Luis Vicente Gutiérrez is an American politician. He served as the U.S. representative for Illinois's 4th congressional district from 1993 to 2019. From 1986 until his election to Congress,he served as a member of the Chicago City Council representing the 26th ward. Edward Robert Vrdolyak,also known as "Fast Eddie",is a former American politician and lawyer. He was a longtime Chicago alderman and the head of the Cook County Democratic Party until 1987 when he ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Chicago on the Illinois Solidarity Party ticket. Patrick J. O'Connor is a former Chicago politician. He is the former alderman in Chicago's City Council representing the 40th ward on the North Side of the city. He was first elected in 1983 at age 28. His tenure ended in May 2019 after his loss to challenger Andre Vasquez in the 2019 Chicago aldermanic elections. Edward Michael Burke is an American politician found guilty of racketeering,bribery,and extortion who served as the alderman of Chicago's 14th ward from 1969 to 2023. A member of the Democratic Party,he was first elected to the Chicago City Council in 1969,and represented part of the city's Southwest Side. Latasha R. Thomas is an American politician and former alderman of the 17th Ward of the City of Chicago,Illinois,United States. Thomas was appointed to the position of alderman by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 2000,subsequently elected outright in a 2001 special election,and was re-elected in 2003,2007,and 2011. During her tenure as alderman,Thomas worked to get many of the schools within her ward renovated. Evans is noted as the first African-American Chief Judge of the Cook County Circuit Court. The 2015 Chicago aldermanic elections happened on February 24,2015,to elect the 50 Aldermen that represent Chicago in the City Council. The elections were non-partisan and if no candidate received an absolute majority,a runoff would be held between the top two finishers on April 7,2015.
