Thomson GRC is a constituency that compromises of Bishan East, Serangoon Gardens, Bishan North and Thomson from 1991 to 1997. It merged parts of Thomson and Serangoon Gardens itself. Thomson GRC was led by Leong Horn Kee and Wong Kan Seng.
Thomson is a relatively narrow area stretching from Novena in the Central Region of Singapore up north till Yishun. The area is mainly located within the central catchment area where some of Singapore's reservoirs are located, including MacRitchie Reservoir, Upper Peirce Reservoir and Lower Peirce Reservoir.
The ward only exist for one term until 1997. Bishan and Thomson, along with Toa Payoh GRC, was merged to create Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, while Serangoon Gardens was absorbed into three constituencies, namely Aljunied GRC, Ang Mo Kio GRC and Marine Parade GRC.
Toa Payoh GRC is a group representation constituency that from 1988 to 1997 comprised Kuo Chuan, Boon Teck and Toa Payoh, in the Central Region of Singapore. Kim Keat SMC was absorbed in the 1991 elections.
Bishan-Toa Payoh Group Representation Constituency is a five-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) located in the central region of Singapore. The GRC consists the entire areas of Bishan, the majority of Toa Payoh, parts of Thomson and small portions of Balestier and Novena. This opposition-held GRC consists of a large part of Hougang, Paya Lebar, Serangoon Gardens, the southern half of Serangoon North, as well as a portion of Bedok and a very small section of Tampines.

Potong Pasir is a housing estate located between Toa Payoh and Sennett Estate in the Central Region of Singapore. For urban planning purposes, it is classified under the Toa Payoh area. Potong Pasir is particularly notable for being the longest-held opposition ward in one-party dominant Singapore. Its Opposition Member of Parliament Chiam See Tong held the ward from 1984 to 2011. Potong Pasir is easily accessible by the MRT station.

Founded in 1968, the school was the first secondary school to cater to the population of Singapore's satellite town, Toa Payoh.
