The Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency is a five-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) located in the central, eastern and north-eastern areas of Singapore. The constituency consists of a section of Bedok, Chai Chee, Geylang, Kaki Bukit, Kallang, Kembangan, Marine Parade, Mountbatten, Ubi, Serangoon and Hougang. There are a total of 5 divisions in this GRC: Marine Parade, Geylang Serai, Braddell Heights, Joo Chiat and Kembangan-Chai Chee managed by Marine Parade Town Council. The current MPs are Seah Kian Peng, Mohd Fahmi Aliman, Edwin Tong, and Tan See Leng from the People's Action Party (PAP).

Marine Parade is a planning area and residential estate located on the eastern fringe of the Central Region of Singapore. General elections were held in Singapore on 3 November 2001. President S.R. Nathan dissolved parliament on 18 October 2001 on the advice of Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. The ruling People's Action Party (PAP) won 82 of the 84 elected seats in Parliament in a landslide victory. Due to the large number (55) of uncontested seats, only 675,306 of the 2,036,923 eligible voters (33%) had an opportunity to vote. As of the recent election in 2020, this was the most recent, and fourth overall election PAP returned to power on nomination day with a majority of uncontested walkovers.

Joo Chiat Single Member Constituency was a single member constituency (SMC) located in the eastern region of Singapore. The SMC encompasses the areas of Joo Chiat, Katong, opera estate, Siglap and a portion of Telok Kurau. It had previously existed from 1959 until 1988, when it was merged with neighbouring constituencies to form Bedok Group Representation Constituency. It was reformed just before the 2001 general election after being carved out from East Coast Group Representation Constituency. General elections were held in Singapore on 2 January 1997. President Ong Teng Cheong dissolved parliament on 16 December 1996 on the advice of Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong.
