Tiffin is an unincorporated community in southern St. Clair County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. [1]
The community is on Missouri Route 82 seven miles northeast of El Dorado Springs and fourteen miles southwest of Osceola. [2] Little Clear Creek, a tributary to Clear Creek, flows past one mile west of the community and the upper reaches of the Harry S Truman Reservoir are 2.5 miles to the north. [2]
Variant names were "New Tiffin" and "Whitley". [1] The community was platted under the name Whitley in 1890. [3] The Tiffin post office closed in 1955. [4]
St. Clair County is a county located in the western portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,284. Its county seat is Osceola. The largest city is Appleton City. The county was organized in 1841 and named after General Arthur St. Clair, Governor of the Northwest Territory. St. Clair was also the 9th president of the United States in Congress Assembled. Under his presidency, the Northwest Ordinance and United States Constitution were passed.
