The following is a timeline of the parish of Santiago Maior, the then northern part of the municipality of Praia and the municipality of Santa Cruz, Cape Verde
Santa Cruz is a concelho (municipality) of Cape Verde. It is situated in the eastern part of the island of Santiago. Its seat is the city Pedra Badejo. Its population was 26,617 at the 2010 census, and its area is 112.2 km2.
The Rabelados are a religious community primarily found in the interior of the island of Santiago of Cape Verde. They were among the groups which revolted against the liturgical reforms of the Catholic Church introduced in the 1940s, isolating themselves from the rest of society.
The Carnation Revolution, also known as the 25th of April, was initially a 25 April 1974 military coup in Lisbon which overthrew the authoritarian Estado Novo regime. The revolution began as a coup organised by the Armed Forces Movement, composed of military officers who opposed the regime, but it was soon coupled with an unanticipated, popular civil resistance campaign. The revolution led to the fall of the Estado Novo and the withdrawal of Portugal from its African colonies.
The Estado Novo, or the Second Republic, was the corporatist authoritarian regime installed in Portugal in 1933, which was considered fascist. It evolved from the Ditadura Nacional formed after the coup d'état of 28 May 1926 against the democratic and unstable First Republic. Together, the Ditadura Nacional and the Estado Novo are recognised as the Second Portuguese Republic. The Estado Novo, greatly inspired by conservative and authoritarian ideologies, was developed by António de Oliveira Salazar, President of the Council of Ministers of Portugal from 1932 to 1968, when he fell ill and was replaced by Marcelo Caetano.

Grupo Desportivo Benfica de Santa Cruz, sometimes as Grupo Desportivo Benfica is a football (soccer) club that plays in the Santiago Island North League in Cape Verde. It is based in the town of Calheta de São Miguel in the island of Santiago and plays at Estádio Municipal 25 de Julho located northwest of the city center. Since the implementation of the two tier regional system in 2015, the club are one of ten unrelegated clubs of northern Santiago.

São Domingos is a concelho (municipality) of Cape Verde. It is situated in the southeastern part of the island of Santiago. Its seat is the city São Domingos. Its population was 13,699 at the 2010 census, and its area is 147.5 km2.
Santiago is the largest island of Cape Verde, its most important agricultural centre and home to half the nation’s population. Part of the Sotavento Islands, it lies between the islands of Maio and Fogo. It was the first of the islands to be settled: the town of Ribeira Grande was founded in 1462. The municipality was created in 1996, when a parish of the older Municipality of Tarrafal was separated to become the Municipality of São Miguel.
Santa Catarina is a concelho (municipality) of Cape Verde. It is situated in the western part of the island of Santiago. Its seat is the city of Assomada. Its population was 45,920 in 2017 (estimate). Its area is 242.6 km2.
Mosteiros is a concelho (municipality) of Cape Verde. Situated in the northeastern part of the island of Fogo, it covers 19% of the island area, and is home to 26% of its population. Its seat is the city Mosteiros (Igreja). Its population was 9,524 at the 2010 census, and its area is 89.45 km2.
São Lourenço dos Órgãos is a concelho (municipality) of Cape Verde. It is situated in the mountainous central part of the island of Santiago. Its seat is the city João Teves. Its population was 7,388 at the 2010 census, and its area is 36.9 km2. The municipality is bordered by Santa Cruz to the northeast, São Domingos to the south, Ribeira Grande de Santiago to the southwest and São Salvador do Mundo to the northwest. Pico de Antónia, the island's highest mountain, straddles the borders of São Lourenço dos Órgãos, São Salvador do Mundo and Ribeira Grande de Santiago.
São Salvador do Mundo is a concelho (municipality) of Cape Verde. It is situated in the central part of the island of Santiago. Its seat is the city Picos. Its population was 8,677 at the 2010 census, and its area is 26.5 km2, making it the smallest municipality of Cape Verde. The municipality borders Santa Cruz to the northeast, São Lourenço dos Órgãos to the southeast, Ribeira Grande de Santiago to the southwest and Santa Catarina to the northwest.
Achada Monte is a town in the northern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde and is part of the municipality of São Miguel. It is situated near the east coast, 8 km northwest of Calheta de São Miguel. In 2010 its population was 1,652. It is on the road connecting Praia and Tarrafal through Pedra Badejo, the EN1-ST02. The small bay Mangue de Sete Ribeiras is located east of the settlement. Ribeira Principal flows west of the village.
Nossa Senhora da Luz is a freguesia of Cape Verde. It covers the eastern part of the municipality of São Domingos, on the island of Santiago.
São Nicolau Tolentino is a freguesia of Cape Verde. It covers the western part of the municipality of São Domingos, on the island of Santiago.
Praia is a concelho (municipality) of Cape Verde. It is situated in the southern part of the island of Santiago. Its seat is the city Praia, the capital of Cape Verde. Its area is 120.6 km2 (46.6 sq mi), and its population was 131,719 at the 2010 census. The municipality consists of one freguesia, Nossa Senhora da Graça. The city hall is located in the Platô part of the city.
João Teves is a city in the central part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. It is situated 19 km northwest of the capital Praia, on the national road from Praia to Assomada (EN1-ST01). It is the seat of São Lourenço dos Órgãos municipality. A source river of the Ribeira Seca flows through the town.
Praia Baixo is a village in the southeastern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. It is part of the municipality of São Domingos and the parish of Nossa Senhora da Luz. It is situated on the east coast, 1.5 km northwest of Achada Baleia, 11 km southeast of Pedra Badejo, 10 km east of São Domingos and 16 km north of the capital Praia. In 2010 its population was 952.
Milho Branco is a village in the southeastern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. It is situated 2 km north of Ribeirão Chiqueiro, 5 km east of the city São Domingos and 12 km north of the capital Praia. The national road EN1-ST02 from Ribeirão Chiqueiro to Tarrafal via Pedra Badejo passes through the village. It is part of the municipality of São Domingos. In 2010 its population was 607.
Ribeira Seca is the largest stream of the island of Santiago in Cape Verde. It is 18 km (11 mi) long and its basin area is 71.5 km2 (27.6 sq mi). Located in the eastern part of the island, it flows through the municipalities of São Lourenço dos Órgãos and Santa Cruz. Its source is near the highest point of the island, Pico de Antónia, from where it flows to the east to João Teves. It turns to the northeast and flows into the Atlantic Ocean at Achada Fazenda, 2 km southeast of Pedra Badejo. It is called Ribeira de Pico da Antónia in its uppermost part, and Ribeira de Lage near João Teves.
Achada Ponta is a settlement in the eastern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. It is part of the municipality Santa Cruz. It is located near the east coast, 2 km southeast of Achada Fazenda and 5 kilometers southeast of Pedra Badejo. In 2010 its population was 403.
