Tongor Kaira is a village located in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region of Ghana.

Location

Kaira is located to the east of the Volta lake. It is just to the west of the Akwapim-Togo mountains which extend from the south east of Ghana through the Volta Region into Togo. To the west are Kpalime Duga and To Kpalime and to the north, Tsate Kpalime and Tsibu. To the south are some of the Peki towns. Just over the Akwapim-Togo mountains to the east are Tsito and Anyirawase, all in the Volta Region of Ghana.

History

The people of the Kpalime Traditional Area are believed to have migrated to their present locations from Notsie in Togo. This was to escape the tyranny of Togbe Agorkorli, the king of Notsie. One large group migrated to the coast. The second group includes the people of Wegbe, Kpeve and Klefe among others who settled in the Volta midlands. [1]

People

The indigenous population are the Ewe. Wegbe Kpalime is one of the main villages in the Kpalime Traditional Area. They are related to the other Kpalime towns which include Kpale, Todome, Tsatee, Hiama, Kaira, Toh and Duga. Duga is the main village of the Kpalime Traditional Area.

The inhabitants of Wegbe celebrate the annual Kpalikpakpaza or Kpalikpakpa festival around December each year. This is to commemorate the valour of their ancestors during their migration from Notsie in Togo. This festival was only instituted in 1997. [2] The main celebration rotates between the various villages annually. The 17th festival in November 2012 was celebrated in Kaira. [3]

Administration

Kaira is ruled by a king or Fiaga. At present however, it is ruled by a regent, Seth Otoo. [4] Kaira is within the South Dayi District with capital at Kpeve. The district administration which is based there is headed by a District Chief Executive. This is currently Kafui Bekui.

Dzodze is a small town, the capital and administrative centre of Ketu North Municipality, a district in the south eastern corner of the Volta Region of Ghana. From the Exodus of the Ewe people, some of them arrived and stayed in Dzodze, in the Volta Region of Ghana after the fall of the wall of Notse. The natives speak Ewe (Eʋe) the main language in Dzodze. They are an Anlo-Ewe community. The traditional rhythm of this land is Agbadja, and Ageshe.

Semenu Kafui Bekui is a Ghanaian civil servant, and a former district chief executive of the South Dayi District in the Volta Region of Ghana.

Klefe is a small town in the Ho Municipal District of the Volta Region of Ghana. It is in the southern part of the Volta Region. The town is set on a hill and there are trails for hiking.

Wegbe Kpalime is a village located in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region of Ghana.

Anloga is a town in Keta District of the Volta Region in southeast Ghana. It lies east of the Volta River and just south of the Keta Lagoon. Anloga is the forty-seventh most populous town in Ghana, in terms of population, with a population of 35,933 people.

The Kpalikpakpa zã or Kpalikpakpa festival is an annual festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of the Kpalime Traditional Area located in the Volta Region of Ghana. The name of the festival is derived from an appellation in Ewe which is "Kpalikpakpa si tu makpata" which means "shooting without recording". The festival is meant to remind the Kpalime people of the valour of their ancestors during wars in the ancient days.

The Hogbetsotso festival(pronounced Hogbechocho) is celebrated by the chiefs and people of Anlo in the Volta region of Ghana. Some major Anlo towns include Anloga (capital), Keta, Kedzi, Vodza, Whuti, Srogboe, Tegbi, Dzita, Abor, Afiadenyigba, Anyako, Konu, Alakple, Atsito, Atiavi, Deʋegodo, Atorkor, Tsiame and many other villages. The festival is celebrated annually on the first Saturday in the month of November at Anloga which is the customary and ritual capital of the Anlo state. The name of the festival is derived from the Ewe language and translates as, the festival of exodus. or "coming from Hogbe (Notsie)". The celebration of the festival was instituted about four decades ago.
