Trevor Nevin Marcel Bonot (born May 27, 1985) is a Canadian curler who lives in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Bonot was raised in Stratton, Ontario. [2] Bonot played for Team Canada and won a medal at a World Mixed Curling Championships (2017). [3]

Curling career

Men's

At the 2023 Northern Ontario Men's Provincial Curling Championship, team Bonot finished 3rd in Northern Ontario, [4] beating Olympic Gold Medallist Brad Jacobs in the A-Final. [5]

Bonot also competes in the TBaytel Major League of Curling, [6] capturing the title in 2018. [7] and 2024. [8]

2023-2024, Team Bonot qualified for two events, the St. Paul Cashspiel [9] and Challenge de Curling Desjardins. [10] Team Bonot won the 2024 Northern Ontario Men's Provincial Curling Championship [11] in Little Current, Ontario.

Mixed

Bonot has won five Northern Ontario Mixed Championships, all with his sister Jackie McCormick at third. [12] Bonot won a Gold medal at the 2017 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship [13] defeating team Manitoba in the final. [14] Almost a year later, Team Bonot [15] represented Canada and came home with a silver medal at the 2017 World Mixed Curling Championships in Champéry, Switzerland. [16] Bonot won the 2019 Northern Ontario Mixed Championships but failed to make the championship pool at the 2019 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. In 2021, Bonot won the Northern Ontario Mixed Championship. [17] Team Bonot went to the National Championship in Canmore, Alberta and finished out of the playoffs of the 2021 Canadian Mixed Curling Championships. In 2022, Bonot won a fourth Provincial Mixed Championship in North Bay, Ontario; [18] Team Bonot went to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan for the national event. [19] Bonot made the final of the 2022 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship [20] but left Prince Albert, with a silver medal. [21]

In April 2023, Team Bonot won their third provincial mixed title in a row defeating Dylan Johnston in the Northern Ontario final. [22] [23] Bonot finished out of the Playoffs at the 2023 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship with a 4-5 record.

Bonot has been presented with the Sportsmanship Award at the Canadian Mixed. (2017, [24] 2019 [25] )

Mixed doubles

Bonot has won two Northern Ontario Mixed Doubles Curling Championships. He competed with Amanda Gates at the 2018 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship held in Leduc, Alberta. Bonot won the Northern Ontario Provincial title in 2020 with Oye-Sem Won but did not play in the 2020 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship as the event was cancelled due to the onset of COVID-19. The next year, they were selected by the Northern Ontario Curling Association to represent Northern Ontario at the "Calgary bubble" in the 2021 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship. [26] The team beat former Olympic Champion, Kaitlyn Lawes (who was partnered with her nephew, Connor) in the first game. [27]

In January 2024, Trevor and Jackie McCormick won the 2024 NOCA Mixed Doubles Championship [28] in Stratton, ON. [29]

Honours

In September 2022, Team Bonot was inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame. [30] [31]

Personal life

Bonot lives in Thunder Bay, and is a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones. [47]

He was the Grand Marshall of the 2019 Borderland Pride March in Fort Frances, Ontario and International Falls, Minnesota. [48] He is gay. [49]

Bonot sits on the Board of the Northern Ontario Curling Association. [50]

Education

Bonot graduated from Rainy River High School [51] in 2003 before moving to Thunder Bay to attend Lakehead University. Bonot graduated with an HBa in Sociology in 2008. [52]

In Gates' first appearance at the Scotties, she won the Marj Mitchell Sportsmanship Award.

The 2017 Northern Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the Northern Ontario women's curling championship, was held January 18–24 at the Nipigon Curling and Event Centre in Nipigon, Ontario. The winning Krista McCarville rink represented Northern Ontario at the 2017 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in St. Catharines, Ontario. The win sent McCarville to her sixth national Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

The 2022 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Canada's national women's curling championship, was held from January 28 to February 6 at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The winning team represented Canada at the 2022 World Women's Curling Championship at the CN Centre in Prince George, British Columbia.

The 2024 Northern Ontario Men's Provincial Curling Championship, the men's provincial curling championship for Northern Ontario, was held from January 24 to 28 at the NEMI Recreation Complex in Little Current, Ontario. The winning Trevor Bonot represented Northern Ontario at the 2024 Montana's Brier, Canada's national men's curling championship in Regina, Saskatchewan. The event was held in conjunction with the 2024 Northern Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the provincial women's curling championship.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kam River Fighting Walleye</span> Junior ice hockey team

The Kam River Fighting Walleye is a junior ice hockey team in the SIJHL based in Oliver Paipoonge, Ontario. Apart from the team's inaugural 2020–21 season, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team has finished each regular season in 1st place in the league. The team won the league championship Bill Salonen Cup in 2023 and advanced to the national championship tournament where they were eliminated in the preliminary round.

The 2022–23 SIJHL season is the 21st season of the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL). The league's 7 teams each played a 54-game regular season schedule from September 2022 – March 2023. The Kam River Fighting Walleye won the league championship Bill Salonen Cup after defeating the Thunder Bay North Stars in seven games in the final round of the playoffs.
