Tribeni Sahai Misra (born 15 November 1922 in Mahona;died 24 October 2005 in Lucknow) was an Allahabad High Court Judge. He was later the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. [1] He was the Governor of Assam and Meghalaya. [2] [3] [4]
Purno Agitok Sangma was an Indian politician who has served as the 4th Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 1988 to 1990 and the 11th Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 1996 to 1998. He also served as a member of the Lok Sabha from Tura from 2014 to 2016,1991 to 2008 and from 1977 to 1989 and the minister of 21st Information and Broadcasting in the Rao ministry from 1995 to 1996,founder of NPP and Co- founder of NCP. He was the candidate for the 2012 Indian presidential election,supported by BJP and AIADMK,however he lost to Congress politician Shri Pranab Mukherjee. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan,India's second highest civilian award,posthumously in 2017 in the field of Public Affairs and was the first recipient of Padma Vibhushan from Meghalaya.
The Gauhati High Court was promulgated by governor general of India on 1 March 1948 after the Government of India Act 1935 was passed,establishing the high court with effect from 5 April 1948,for the then-province of Assam. It was originally known as the High Court of Assam and Nagaland,but renamed as Gauhati High Court in 1971 by the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act,1971.

Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is an autonomous district council in the state of Meghalaya in India. Bimala Prasad Chaliha was a Leader of Indian National Congress and a Freedom Fighter who was imprisoned at Jorhat Jail in 1942 for active participation in Mahatma Gandhi's Quit India Movement against the British Government. He was married to Preeti Mehrotra and had 4 daughters and 1 son,Ravi Prakash Mehrotra who is an eminent lawyer in the Supreme Court of India.
