Trompeta Toccata is a 1964 album by jazz trumpeter Kenny Dorham. It was released by Blue Note Records in 1965 as BST 84181. It was remastered by original recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder in 2006. Trompeta Toccata, as with Dorham's previous album Una Mas , features only four pieces, three of which were written by the trumpeter himself. Trompeta Toccata would be his last appearance as a leader; Bob Blumenthal wrote in his 2006 liner notes for the album that "the remainder of Dorhams' recorded career was confined to sideman appearances that can be counted on the fingers of one hand". Dorham felt very satisfied working with these musicians - Joe Henderson, Tommy Flanagan, Richard Davis and especially Albert Heath - "he always kept the soloist sparked up." [6] About Henderson, he stated "He never fails to excite me" explaining "For instance, after I played him the melody of 'Trompeta Toccata', he wrote the chords for it. And what he wrote is what I heard in my own ear". Dorham chose the title Trompeta Toccata "since the term "toccata" comes from a Latin language base, and since the song is in 6/8 with an Afro-Latin feeling; it seemed logical to make the whole title Latin". [6] According to Dorham, "Night Watch", a bluesy piece, speaks of the night and darkness; "It's very late at night, and the mood is what comes when you're alone at that time". "Mamacita" is a 12-bars bossa nova. During its recording, Dorham recalls that once they got started on it, they caught fire; even Blue Note producer Alfred Lion and photographer Francis Wolff began to move to rhythm. [6]

McKinley Howard "Kenny" Dorham was an American jazz trumpeter, composer, and occasional singer. Dorham's talent is frequently lauded by critics and other musicians, but he never received the kind of attention or public recognition from the jazz establishment that many of his peers did. For this reason, writer Gary Giddins said that Dorham's name has become "virtually synonymous with 'underrated'."

"In 1975", Blumenthal states in the CD liner notes, "five British critics picked Whistle Stop as one of 200 albums that belonged in a basic library of jazz recorded after World War II".
Kenny Dorham Quintet is a jazz studio album by trumpeter Kenny Dorham. It was his debut album as a leader and was released in 1953, on the Debut label as DLP-9 and originally included only tracks 1 to 3 and 5 to 7. Tracks 4 and 8 were released as bonus tracks on 12-inch LP OJC-113, whilst the CD release featured the previously unreleased tracks 9, 10 and 11. According to the liner notes on the CD back cover "Label head Charles Mingus decided not to release them at the time and they languished in the tape vault for almost 40 years, until their fortuitous discovery in late 1992".
Una Mas, titled Una Mas (One More Time) on the front cover, is a jazz album by trumpeter Kenny Dorham and his quintet, released in 1963 on Blue Note as BLP 4127 and BST 84127. The album would be the next-to-last studio session led by the trumpeter. Una Mas features three compositions by Dorham himself. An outtake from the session, the ballad "If Ever I Would Leave You", comes from the Broadway musical Camelot.
Afro-Cuban is an album by American jazz trumpeter Kenny Dorham, recorded for Blue Note on March 29, 1955 and released later that year on the Blue Note Modern Jazz Series, shortly before the label discontinued the format. It was soon reissued on the new 1500 series, recompiled with a session by an early incarnation of the ensemble, with new cover art.

The album features Dorham's own composition "Lotus Blossom", which was earlier recorded by Sonny Rollins under the title "Asiatic Raes". The tune has been recorded under both titles subsequently.
