TurnTable is a Nigerian music and entertainment magazine founded by Ayomide Oriowo, and Similoluwa Adegoke. TurnTable focuses primarily on music charts, news, and events. Its music charts include the Top 100, and the Year-End chart. TurnTable magazine has two issues, and its first issue was published on 19 December 2020, by Similoluwa Adegoke. [1] Its issues are printed in English.

History

TurnTable was founded in 2020, [2] by Ayomide Oriowo, and Similoluwa Adegoke. On 3 July 2020, TurnTable launched its Top 50 chart, [3] and started operations on 9 November 2020. [4] In December, it began publishing the Top 50 End-Year chart. Since its launch, the magazine has covered Chike, and Lojay [5] in its issues. The magazine features include: Bizzle Osikoya, Asa Asika, [6] Namenj, [7] Tempoe, [8] Weird MC, Yemi Alade, Ayra Starr, Fave, [9] Don Jazzy, Bose Ogulu. [10] Niphkeys, Jae5, AV, Tiwa Savage, Reward Beatz, Seyi Shay, Shay Jones, Aṣa, Omawumi, and Wiz Jones.

On 12 September 2022, Ayomide Oriowo announced the exit of Adeayo Adebiyi, the Co-Editor-in-chief of TurnTable. [11]

News publishing

TurnTable publishes a news website and a yearly magazine that covers music, and entertainment. It covers news, charts, interviews, and music reviews, but its major influential creation is the TurnTable charts. The charts track music airplay (radio, and television), and digital streaming. The TurnTable Top 50 chart of the top streamed and selling songs was introduced in 2020. On 31 March 2022, it announce the expansion of the Top 50 into 100. "Feeling" is a song by Nigerian musicians Ladipoe and Buju. It was released by Mavin Records, through Mavin Global Holdings on 7 May 2021. The song was written by Ladipoe and Buju, and produced by Andre Vibez. "Feeling" spent four consecutive weeks at number 1 on the Nigerian TurnTable Top 50 chart, and became the most played song on Nigeria radio from 26 May to 13 July 2021. Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, known professionally as Joeboy, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. Mr Eazi of record label emPawa Africa discovered him in 2017. His genre of music is that of Afro pop and R&B. He was born in Lagos State, Nigeria.

"Nobody" is the second single from Nigerian disk jockey DJ Neptune's forthcoming second studio album Greatness II: The Sounds Of Neptune. The song was released as a single on March 5, 2020. It was produced by Magic Sticks and features vocals from Nigerian singers Joeboy and Mr Eazi. "Nobody" is the first Nigerian song to peak at number one, on TurnTable End of the Year Top 50 chart.

The TurnTable Top 100 is the music industry standard record chart in Nigeria for songs, published weekly by TurnTable magazine. Chart rankings are based on airplay and online streaming in Nigeria. In its opening year, TurnTable charts listed 50 positions, but later expanded its chart ranking to 100 on the second half of 2022.

"Away" is a song by Nigerian singer Oxlade, released as the only single from his first extended play Oxygene (2020). The song was produced by Nigerian record producer Spax. It was ranked at number 23 on Rolling Stone's list of 50 Best Songs of 2020, and TurnTable's Yearly Top 50 chart of 2020. As of August 2021, "Away" has received over 7.9 million streams on Spotify.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">CKay</span> Nigerian singer and record producer (born 1995)

Chukwuka Ekweani, better known by his stage name CKay, is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and record producer signed to Warner Music South Africa, and Atlantic Records. He was formerly signed to Chocolate City, a member of Warner Music Group independent label services ADA. His international hit single "Love Nwantiti", also known as "Love Nwantiti ", was released in 2019 by Chocolate City. On 29 March 2022, the song debuted at number one, following the launch of the Billboard Afrobeats chart. On 9 May 2022, it became the first African song in history to surpass one billion streams on Spotify.

"Damages" is a song by Nigerian singer and record producer Tems. It was released on 17 September 2020. Written by Tems and produced by Spax, the song is the only single from Tems's first EP For Broken Ears, which was released on 25 September 2020.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Oxlade (singer)</span> Nigerian Afro-fusion musician

Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, known professionally as Oxlade, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter signed to Troniq Music, Epic Records in France, and Fuenlabrada Records in the UK. He rose to prominence with the release of the song "Away", which appeared on Rolling Stone's 50 best songs of 2020. Oxlade was named the first Pandora Africa's Next Artist in July 2022.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">TurnTable End of the Year Top 50 of 2020</span>

The TurnTable End of the Year Top 50 of 2020 is a chart that ranks the best-performing singles in Nigeria. Its data, published by TurnTable magazine, is based collectively on each single's weekly physical and digital sales, as well as airplay and streaming. At the end of a year, TurnTable publishes an annual list of the 50 most successful songs throughout that year on its top 50 charts based on the information. The 2020 edition was published on 30 December 2020, calculated with data from 1 January to 14 December 2020.

TurnTable charts is a catalog of relative weekly, and yearly popular songs in the Nigerian music space. The results are published in TurnTable magazine. TurnTable provides additional weekly charts, as well as the End of the Year Top 50. The charts can be ranked according to airplay, and digital streaming. For main song charts such as the TurnTable Top 100, all three data are used to compile the charts. For End of the Year Top 50, streams and airplay from TurnTable Top 100 are included.

"Peru" is a song by Nigerian singer Fireboy DML. It was released on 20 July 2021, through YBNL Nation, and distributed by Empire. "Peru" was written by Fireboy DML, Ivory Scott, & Kolten Perine and produced by Shizzi & Perine. On 23 December 2021, a reworked version of "Peru" was released, a collaboration with English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. The music video for the version with Sheeran was released on 24 December 2021. The song was nominated at the 7th annual African Entertainment Awards USA for Song of the Year. The government of the Republic of Peru endorsed the version with Sheeran, encouraging its citizens to listen to it.

Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, is a Nigerian Afrobeat singer and songwriter. Ruger came into lime-light 2021 after he signed a record deal with D'Prince "Jonzing world record" with a publishing and distribution deal with Columbia Records, and Sony Music Entertainment, U.K division. On 4 March 2021, he released his debut EP Pandemic.

"Love Don't Cost A Dime" is a song by Nigerian singer-songwriter Magixx, on his eponymous debut EP Magixx. It is the first song on the EP, released officially released on 24 September 2021 by Mavin Records. It song was written by Magixx, and produced by Lomon. A new version of the song titled "Love Don't Cost A Dime (Re-Up)" featuring Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, released as his single in 2022.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">PALAZZO</span> 2022 single by SPINALL and Asake

"PALAZZO" is a song by a Nigerian disc jockey SPINALL, featuring Asake. It was released on 13 May 2022, through TheCAP Music. SPINALL, and Asake wrote the song, produced by SPINALL and Magix Sticks, with sound engineer Eskeez. PALAZZO earned SPINALL his third UK Afrobeats Singles Chart entry at number 6, and earned Asake third entry on the chart. It also earned SPINALL his first entry on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs at number 6, and earned Asake, his third entry on the chart. The song was ranked at number 1 on TheCable's list of 10 TCL radio pick of the week, and debuted on number 2 on the TurnTable Top 50 chart.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sugarcane (Camidoh song)</span>

"Sugarcane" is a song by Ghanaian singer and songwriter Camidoh, featuring the Nigerian record producer Phantom, released in 2021 by Grind Don't Stop Records, through Crux Global, and MOVES Recordings. A remix, with Mayorkun, and Darkoo, featuring the Ghanaian singer King Promise, was released in 2022. The song gained popularity across TikTok, following the release of the remix.

Ekeh Chiaka Joseph known professionally as Majeeed is a Nigerian Afropop Singer, and Songwriter signed to Dream Empire Music. He is known for his breakthrough single "Yawa No Dey End", released in 2022 as the lead single off his extended play Bitter Sweet. On 29 April 2022, a new version of "Yawa No Dey End", was released with Joeboy, through Dream Empire Music, and emPawa Africa, which peaked at number 41 on the Nigeria TurnTable Top 50 chart, on the week of May 9, 2022.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Watawi</span> 2022 single by CKay featuring Davido, Focalistic, and Abidoza

"Watawi" is a song by Nigerian singer and songwriter CKay, featuring fellow Nigerian singer Davido, alongside a South African rapper Focalistic, and record producer Abidoza. It was released on 17 June 2022, by Warner Music Africa. "Watawi" was written by CKay, Davido, Focalistic, and Abidoza, who also produced the song. It accompanied by a music video directed by Dalia Dias. It debuted at number 13 on the TurnTable Top 50, number 21 on the US Billboard Afrobeats Songs chart, and number 6 on the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart.

Ikechukwu Okoronkwo better known by his stage name AcebergTM, is a Nigerian Afro pop singer, songwriter, and rapper signed to SJW Entertainment. He is known for his breakthrough single "Danca", released in 2021 as the lead single off his extended play Far from Home, released through SJW Entertainment. On 31 May 2021, "Danca" peaked at 33 on the Nigeria TurnTable Top 50 chart. On 20 April 2021, during it debut week on TurnTable, it ranked at number 25 on Top 50 Airplay, and Top 50 Streaming songs in Nigeria.

<i>Far from Home</i> (AcebergTM EP) 2021 EP by AcebergTM

Far from Home is the debut extended play by Nigerian musician AcebergTM. It was released on 16 April 2021, by SJW Entertainment, and distributed through ONErpm. Far from Home is inspired by his journey, untold stories, and passion for being extraordinary. The album is a mixture of Afropop, R&B, Amapiano, and Afrobeats percussive rhythms. It was executively produced by Sir Justine, with additional production from Phantom, Tempoe, Kel-P, JFred, and Winexroll. The EP received favorable reviews from critics.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Tempoe</span> Nigerian record producer and musician

Michael Chigozie Alagwu, better known by his stage name Tempoe, is a Nigerian record producer, singer and songwriter. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, he is popularly known for the tag "MÄD!", at the beginning or end of all his music productions. His production of CKay's breakout afrobeats song, Love Nwantiti received global recognition.
