The event was headlined by a light heavyweight bout between former title challenger Glover Teixeira and Tennessee resident Ovince Saint Preux. [2]
Matt Van Buren was briefly linked to a bout with promotional newcomer Jonathan Wilson at the event. However, Van Buren was removed from the card in early June citing injury and was replaced by Jared Cannonier. [3] In turn, Cannonier was forced to pull out due to injury and was replaced by Chris Dempsey. [4]
Joe Riggs was expected to face Uriah Hall at this event. However, Riggs was forced to pull out due to injury and was replaced by UFC newcomer Oluwale Bamgbose. [5]
Ian McCall was expected to face Dustin Ortiz at this event. However, McCall was forced to pull out of the event due to injury and was replaced by Willie Gates. Gates had previously fought only 27 days before the event, when he defeated Darrell Montague at The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale. [5]
Ray Borg missed weight on his first attempt at the weigh-ins, coming in at 126.75 lb. After having made no attempts to cut further, he was fined 20 percent of his fight purse, which went to his opponent Geane Herrera. [6]

Glover Lucas Teixeira is a Brazilian-American retired professional mixed martial artist. He competed in the Light Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. Teixeira is a former member of the Brazilian National Wrestling Team and has competed in the WEC, Impact FC, PFC and Shooto. He is the second oldest UFC champion in history behind Randy Couture and the oldest first time champion in UFC history.
Ovince Saint Preux is an American professional mixed martial artist who competes in the light heavyweight division of the UFC. A professional competitor since 2008, Saint Preux has also formerly competed for Strikeforce, the XFC, and Shark Fights. He is known for his unorthodox fighting style, and has gained notability and notoriety for having won four fights using the rare Von Flue choke submission, leading to fans renaming it to the "Von Preux choke".
