The University of Canterbury is a public research university based in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was founded in 1873 as Canterbury College, the first constituent college of the University of New Zealand. It is New Zealand's second-oldest university, after the University of Otago, which was founded four years earlier, in 1869.

The university's main campus is in Crawley, a suburb located in the City of Perth local government area. UWA was established in 1911 by an act of the Parliament of Western Australia.
Murdoch University is a public university in Perth, Western Australia, with campuses also in Singapore and Dubai. It began operations as the state's second university on 25 July 1973, and accepted its first undergraduate students in 1975. Its name is taken from Sir Walter Murdoch (1874–1970), the Founding Professor of English and former Chancellor of the University of Western Australia.
The University of South Australia is a public research university based in South Australia. Established in 1991, it is the largest university in the state with over 36,000 students in 2022. Its main campuses in North Terrace are co-located with Adelaide's biomedical precinct on its west and the Australian Space Agency headquarters on its east. In mid-2023, it agreed to merge with the neighbouring University of Adelaide, with which it had maintained historically strong ties. The two universities accounted for over 72% of the state's public university population in 2022 and the merger is expected to complete by the end of 2025. The combined institution will be re-branded as Adelaide University.

Charles Christian Porter is an Australian former politician and lawyer who served as the 37th Attorney-General of Australia from 2017 to 2021 in the Turnbull government and the subsequent Morrison government. James Joshua Edelman has been a justice of the High Court of Australia since 30 January 2017, and is a former justice of the Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of Western Australia. He is noted for his various achievements at a young age, including becoming a professor at Oxford University before the age of 35 and a justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia before the age of 40. He was 43 years old upon commencing his appointment on the High Court and is eligible to continue until reaching the constitutionally required retirement age of 70 in 2044.
