Uchee, also known as Spains Stand, is an unincorporated community in Russell County, Alabama, United States.
Uchee is named after the nearby Uchee Creek, which in turn is named for the Yuchi tribe. [2] The word "yuchi" probably means "at a distance" in the Yuchi language, with yu meaning "at a distance" and chi meaning "sitting down". [3] The Yuchi lived in the area around present day Russell County, Alabama and Fort Benning, Georgia, before being removed to the Indian Territory. The Uchee Methodist Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A post office was operated in Uchee from 1835 to 1907. [4]

Uchee appeared on the 1880 U.S. Census as an unincorporated community of 63 residents. This was the only time it appeared on the census rolls.

Uchee Billy or Yuchi Billy was a chief of a Yuchi band in Florida during the first half of the 19th century. Uchee Billy's band was living near Lake Miccosukee when Andrew Jackson invaded Spanish Florida during the First Seminole War and attacked the villages in the area. Yuchi Billy and his band then moved to the St. Johns River. During the Second Seminole War, Uchee Billy was an ally of the Seminoles, and was one of the principal war chiefs who fought the U.S. Army.

Foshee is an unincorporated community in Escambia County, Alabama, United States between Brewton and Pollard on U.S. Route 29. Foshee was founded as a sawmill town and named after Stewart J. Foshee, who owned several sawmills in Escambia County. Russell A. Alger and Martin Sullivan founded the Alger-Sullivan Lumber Company in the late 1890s and began logging around Foshee. They used lumber from the mill to build a new sawmill in Florida, which eventually grew into the town of Century. A post office was operated in Foshee from 1914 to 1924.
Dudleyville, also known as Pittsborough, is an unincorporated community in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, United States. Dudleyville was named for Peter Dudley, who established the first trading post in the area. The town was incorporated on February 2, 1839. A post office was operated in Dudleyville from 1836 to 1907. Major Lemuel Montgomery, the first American soldier killed in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, was formerly buried in the Dudleyville cemetery, before his grave was moved to Horseshoe Bend National Military Park. Abram Mordecai, a trader who installed the first cotton gin in Alabama, lived for a time in Dudleyville. It was here that Albert J. Pickett visited him in 1847 and gathered information from him to use in his History of Alabama. County Line Baptist Church, which is located east of Dudleyville, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The earliest known written variant of the name that became Tennessee was recorded by Spanish explorer Captain Juan Pardo when he and his men passed through a Native American village named "Tanasqui" in 1567 while traveling inland from modern-day South Carolina. In the early 18th century, British traders encountered a Cherokee town named Tanasi in present-day Monroe County, Tennessee. The town was on a river of the same name and appears on maps as early as 1725. It is not known whether this was the same town as the one Juan Pardo encountered, but recent research suggests that the "Tanasqui" Pardo recorded was at the confluence of the Pigeon River and the French Broad River, near modern Newport, Tennessee.
Fort Madison was a stockade fort built in August 1813 in present-day Clarke County, Alabama, during the Creek War, which was part of the larger War of 1812. The fort was built by the United States military in response to attacks by Creek warriors on encroaching American settlers. The fort shared many similarities to surrounding stockade forts in its construction but possessed a number of differences in its defenses. The fort housed members of the United States Army and settlers from the surrounding area, and it was used as a staging area for raids on Creek forces and supply point on further military expeditions. Fort Madison was subsequently abandoned at the conclusion of the Creek War and only a historical marker exists at the site today.
