Julia Sergeyevna Zlobina is a former competitive ice dancer. Competing for Azerbaijan with Alexei Sitnikov, she is the 2013 Golden Spin of Zagreb champion, 2013 Volvo Open Cup champion, 2012 Nebelhorn Trophy silver medalist, and 2013 Winter Universiade silver medalist. They competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics, finishing 12th, and have placed as high as sixth at the European Championships (2014).
Alexei Alexandrovich Sitnikov is a former competitive ice dancer. Gennady Kaskov is a former Soviet ice dancer. With former partner Ilona Melnichenko, he is the 1987 World Junior champion, 1990 Skate America bronze medallist, and 1991 Winter Universiade champion.
The XXV Winter Universiade, took place in Erzurum, Turkey between 27 January to 6 February. Erzurum is the city at the highest altitude in Turkey, at 1,850 m (6,070 ft), and has over 320 cultural landmarks. Located in Eastern Anatolia Region, it is a city on the traditional silk road and has been governed by many cultures over the centuries. The Erzurum Ice Hockey Arena, located on the Cemal Gürsel Sports Campus, was newly built with an ice rink of 60m x 30m and 3,000 seats for spectators.
Ekaterina Borisovna Rubleva is a Russian former competitive ice dancer. With partner Ivan Shefer, she is the 2009 Cup of Russia bronze medalist, the 2004 Bofrost Cup bronze medalist, and a four-time Russian national medalist.
Nadezhda Frolenkova is a Ukrainian former competitive ice dancer. With partner Vitali Nikiforov, she is a two-time Ukrainian national silver medalist. They were assigned to the 2014 World Championships in Saitama, but were forced to withdraw due to Frolenkova's back injury.
Vladimir Sergeyevich Zuev is a Ukrainian former competitive ice dancer. With Alla Beknazarova, he is a two-time Ukrainian national champion.
Dmitri or Dmytro Valentynovych Shkidchenko was a Ukrainian figure skating coach and pair skater who competed internationally for the Soviet Union. With his skating partner Irina Mironenko, he was the 1985 and 1986 World Junior silver medalist.
The 2015 Winter Universiade, the XXVII Winter Universiade, was a multi sport winter event held in Granada, Spain and Štrbské Pleso, Slovakia. On 14 March 2009, FISU announced that the host would be Granada because they were the only bid.
Lee Seung-hoon is a South Korean speed skater. He won a gold medal in the 10,000 metres, a silver medal in the 5000 meters at the 2010 Winter Olympics, becoming the first and only Asian man ever to achieve these feats, a gold medal in mass-start at the 2018 Winter Olympics, a gold medal in the mass start at the 2016 World Championships in Kolomna, and a bronze medal in mass-start at the 2022 Winter Olympics. He was a short track speed skater, winning the 2008 World Championship 3000 m super-final and three gold medals at the 2009 Winter Universiade. Lee converted to long track in September 2009, as he failed to earn his spot on the South Korea national short track team in the national trials.
Winter Universiade 2017, the XXVIII Winter Universiade, was a multi-sport winter event which took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan from 29 January to 8 February 2017. On 29 November 2011, FISU announced that Winter Universiade 2017 would be hosted in Almaty.
Ukraine competed at the 2015 Winter Universiade in Granada, Spain, and Štrbské Pleso/Osrblie, Slovakia. The Ukrainian team consisted of 52 athletes who competed in alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, figure skating, Nordic combined, short track speed skating, ski jumping, and snowboarding. The team was not represented in curling, freestyle skiing, and ice hockey. Ukraine won 5 medals and shared 13th rank with Austria.
