The 2019 Winter Universiade, the XXIX Universiade, was a multi-sport event for student and youth athletes which took place from 2 to 12 March 2019 in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk. The 2019 Winter Universiade was the third Universiade hosted in Russia and second as an independent country. The first Universiade, when Russia was a Soviet Republic, was hosted by Moscow in 1973, whereas Kazan, capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, hosted the 2013 Summer Universiade. Yuliya Zhuravok is a Ukrainian former biathlete. She became junior world champion in 2015, and represented Ukraine twice at the Biathlon World Championships: in 2015 in Kontiolahti and 2019 in Östersund. She also competed at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, where she was 18th in sprint and 8th in pursuit. Her best World Cup finish was 10th in the individual race in Östersund during the 2016–17 season.

Yeva Yaroslavivna Meleshchuk is a Ukrainian group and former individual rhythmic gymnast. She is the 2019 Summer Universiade Clubs gold medalist. On national level, she is the 2018 Ukrainian National All-around champion and the 2020 Ukrainian National All-around silver medalist.
