The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is a national research university located in Daedeok Innopolis, Daejeon, South Korea. KAIST was established by the Korean government in 1971 as the nation's first public, research-oriented science and engineering institution. KAIST is considered to be one of the most prestigious universities in the nation. KAIST has been internationally accredited in business education, and hosts the Secretariat of the Association of Asia-Pacific Business Schools (AAPBS). KAIST has 10,504 full-time students and 1,342 faculty researchers and had a total budget of US$765 million in 2013, of which US$459 million was from research contracts.

Pyongyang is the capital and largest city of North Korea, where it is sometimes labeled as the "Capital of the Revolution". Pyongyang is located on the Taedong River about 109 km (68 mi) upstream from its mouth on the Yellow Sea. According to the 2008 population census, it has a population of 3,255,288. Pyongyang is a directly administered city with a status equal to that of the North Korean provinces.

Ryu Mi-yong was the chairwoman of the North Korean Chondoist Chongu Party. She was a standing committee member of the 10th Supreme People's Assembly. She was known as a defector from South Korea to the North.

Oh Kil-nam is a retired South Korean economist, who was offered a job as an economist in North Korea, and so defected to North Korea with his wife Shin Suk-ja and daughters, then left them behind when he obtained political asylum in Denmark, where he was working in the North Korean embassy.

Red Star OS is a North Korean Linux distribution, with development first starting in 1998 at the Korea Computer Center (KCC). Prior to its release, computers in North Korea typically used Red Hat Linux, and later switched to modified versions of Microsoft Windows with North Korean language packs installed.

Shin Suk-ja is a South Korean woman who is currently imprisoned, along with her daughters, in North Korea after her husband Oh Kil-nam defected from North Korea to Denmark, having been given a political asylum. The case received international attention, including Amnesty International's naming her a prisoner of conscience and campaigning heavily for her release; this appeal remains ignored by North Korean authorities.

The Juche faction, also known by its Korean name Juchesasangpa and Korean abbreviation Jusapa, was a political faction within South Korea's student movements that supported the North Korean political ideology known as Juche. It was most prominent during the pro-democracy demonstrations of the 1980s and was part of the wider National Anti Juche.

The Great Korean Encyclopedia is a 30-volume encyclopedia published in North Korea. It includes more than 100,000 lemmas, 25,000 visual aids and photos, and more than 5,200 biographical names.

North Korean studies is a sub-area of Korean studies. The number of researchers is comparatively small. The only fully dedicated institution to the study area is the University of North Korean Studies, Seoul, but many universities run undergraduate courses and postgraduate research programs.

The Korean Journalists' Union (Korean: 조선기자동맹) is a North Korean organization for journalists. Founded on 11 October 1946. It is considered an important institution of the country. Membership is mandatory for all North Korean journalists. The union is led by its central committee. It is based in the capital, Pyongyang. The union has published its journal, Journalists' Anthology (기자작품집) since 1960.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Choe In-dok</span> North Korean politician (1920–2003)

Choe In-dok was a North Korean politician, a member of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and an officer in the Korean People's Army. He held the rank of Vice Marshal.

"We have nothing to envy in the world" is a common phrase in North Korean propaganda.
