The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is a national research university located in Daedeok Innopolis, Daejeon, South Korea. KAIST was established by the Korean government in 1971 as the nation's first public, research-oriented science and engineering institution. KAIST is considered to be one of the most prestigious universities in the nation. KAIST has been internationally accredited in business education, and hosts the Secretariat of the Association of Asia-Pacific Business Schools (AAPBS). KAIST has 10,504 full-time students and 1,342 faculty researchers and had a total budget of US$765 million in 2013, of which US$459 million was from research contracts.

Hwang Jang-yop was a North Korean politician who served as the Chairman of the Supreme People's Assembly from 1972 to 1983 and was largely responsible for crafting Juche, the state ideology of North Korea. He defected to South Korea in 1997, the highest-ranking North Korean to have defected.

<i>Squirrel and Hedgehog</i> North Korean animated television show

Squirrel and Hedgehog is a North Korean animated series made by SEK Studio (조선4.26만화영화촬영소). Squirrel and Hedgehog is one of the most popular animated series in North Korea. The show was supposedly discontinued in 2012, which was around the time North Korean state television changed its broadcasting schedule, which cut several animated programs along with it.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kim Sung-uk</span> South Korean journalist

Kim Sung-uk (Korean: 김성욱) is a South Korean journalist, political commentator, and North Korean human rights activist. As the president of the Korea Liberty Union and Jesus Wave Ministry, Kim has done work in educating the South Korean public, especially its youth, about North Korean human rights through lectures, books, and various public events. He has also appeared as a panelist on Korean TV networks Channel A and TV Chosun, where he discussed South Korean political issues and North Korean human rights.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Choe In-dok</span> North Korean politician (1920–2003)

Choe In-dok was a North Korean politician, a member of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and an officer in the Korean People's Army. He held the rank of Vice Marshal.

The Young Scientist Award is a Korean award for young scientists under the age of 40 with research and development achievements in the natural sciences and engineering fields. Four recipients are selected on an annual basis. While the award is organized by the Korean Academy of Science and Technology, it is given on behalf of the president of Korea, and comes with prize money of initially KRW 30 million, and later KRW 50 million. Candidates for the award must be Korean or working within Korea at a university or research institute. The award is presented to natural science researchers in even-numbered years and engineering in odd-numbered years.

Mun Ki-nam is a South Korean former footballer and football manager. Mun was born in North Korea but defected to South Korea in 2004.

"We have nothing to envy in the world" is a common phrase in North Korean propaganda.
