Punaluʻu Beach is a beach between Pāhala and Nāʻālehu on the Big Island of the U.S. state of Hawaii. The beach has black sand made of basalt and created by lava flowing into the ocean which explodes as it reaches the ocean and cools. This volcanic activity is in the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Punaluʻu is frequented by endangered hawksbill and green turtles,which can often be seen basking on the black sand.

Lake Alaotra is the largest lake in Madagascar,located in Alaotra-Mangoro Region and on the island's northern central plateau. Its basin is composed of shallow freshwater lakes and marshes surrounded by areas of dense vegetation. It forms the center of the island's most important rice-growing region. It is a rich habitat for wildlife,including some rare and endangered species,as well as an important fishing ground. Lake Alaotra and its surrounding wetlands cover 7,223 square kilometres (2,789 sq mi),and include a range of habitats,including open water,reedbeds,marshes,and rice paddies. The lake itself covers 900 km2 (350 sq mi). Lake Alaotra was declared a wetland of international importance under the international Ramsar Convention on February 2,2003.

Vernal pools,also called vernal ponds or ephemeral pools,are seasonal pools of water that provide habitat for distinctive plants and animals. They are considered to be a distinctive type of wetland usually devoid of fish,and thus allow the safe development of natal amphibian and insect species unable to withstand competition or predation by fish. Certain tropical fish lineages have however adapted to this habitat specifically.

Blackwater NWR is one of over 540 units in the National Wildlife Refuge System,which is managed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.
The Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area,located within the Yolo Bypass in Yolo County,California,is managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife with the intent of restoring and managing a variety of wildlife habitats in the Yolo Basin,a natural basin in the north part of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. The creation of the wildlife area was spearheaded by the Yolo Basin Foundation. Suncheon Bay Ecological Park is a protected natural area near Suncheon,South Korea. It is a bay between Yeosu and Goheung peninsulas,located 8 km (5.0 mi) from the center of Suncheon,with 21.6 km2 (8.3 sq mi) of mudflats and 5.4 km2 (2.1 sq mi) of reed beds.

Situated at the southern end of the Salton Sea,the refuge protects one of the most important nesting sites and stopovers along the Pacific Flyway. Despite its location in the Colorado Desert,a subdivision of the larger Sonoran Desert,the refuge contains marine,freshwater,wetland,and agricultural habitats which provide sanctuary for hundreds of birds and wetland species,including several that have been listed as endangered or sensitive by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The Yanga National Park is a newly formed national park,located near the township of Balranald in south- western New South Wales. It covers an area of 66,734 hectares which includes 1,932 hectares of Yanga Nature Reserve,and has a frontage of 170 kilometres (110 mi) on the Murrumbidgee River. It is largely located in the Lower Murrumbidgee Floodplain,which is included on A Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia because of its importance as a breeding site for waterbirds when flooded.

Xuân Thủy National Park is a national park in Hong River Biosphere Reserve in Nam Định Province,Vietnam. The national park was established according to the Decision number 01/2003/QĐ-TTg dated 2 January 2003 signed by premier Nguyễn Tấn Dũng,this decision turned Xuân Thủy Wetland Nature Reserve into Xuân Thủy National Park. The park was the first wetland area to be announced a Ramsar site in south-east Asia and is internationally significant as a migratory bird habitat.
The Whangamarino Wetland in the Waikato District is the second largest wetland complex of the North Island of New Zealand. Encompassing a total area of more than 7200 hectares,the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai manages 5,923 hectares of peat bog,swamp,mesotrophic lags,open water and river systems listed as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. Fish and Game New Zealand are the second largest landowner,managing 748 hectares of the wetland primarily as gamebird hunting habitat.
Thale Noi Non-Hunting Area is a protected fresh water wetland located in Phatthalung province,southern Thailand. Covering an area of 460 km2,the wetlands are situated approximately 20 km inland from the east coast peninsula of the Gulf of Thailand and 115 km north of the Malaysian border in Satun province. Thale Noi Non-Hunting Area is one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in South East Asia. It is the smallest,northernmost basin in the chain of lagoons that form Songkhla Lake,spreading across three provincial boundaries into Nakhon Si Thammarat,Phatthalung and Songkhla provinces and is home to the critically endangered Irrawaddy dolphin.
North Campus Open Space (NCOS) is a 136-acre wetland and upland restoration project (55 ha) in Goleta,California. Located on a former golf course,NCOS is managed by the Cheadle Center for Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration (CCBER),a research center under the Office of Research at the University of California,Santa Barbara (UCSB). The primary objectives of this project are:the restoration of the historic upper half of Devereux Slough and adjacent upland and wetland habitats that support important local native plant and animal species,reducing flood risk,providing a buffer against predicted sea level rise,and contributing to carbon sequestration while also supporting public access and outreach,and facilitating research and educational opportunities for all members of the community.
