VIP Brother is a Bulgarian reality televisiongame show in which a number of celebrity contestants live in an isolated house trying to avoid being evicted by the public with the aim of winning a large cash prize or collecting money for charity. The first three seasons of the show to date have aired in the spring (started in March) in 2006, 2007 and 2009, and last six seasons (commencing on September) in the autumn.
The show is a spin-off of the original series Big Brother. There are a number of differences between Big Brother and VIP Brother. For example, VIP Brother lasts for a shorter time than Big Brother - seasons 1 and 2 lasted for 4 and 5 weeks, respectively. Due to the show's popularity seasons 3-9 all lasted for two months. Regular editions usually last for three months (12–13 weeks). The celebrities are paid for their participation.
From its inception in 2006, VIP Brother has been broadcast on Nova Television. The show is presented by Niki Kanchev. Evelina Pavlova was a co-host during the first season, and Aleksandra Sarchadjieva in six seasons.
History
VIP Brother first aired in March 2006 after the huge success of Big Brother 1 and Big Brother 2. The celebrity edition turned out to be even more successful and the second season in 2007 was extended to 33 Days. Due to rebuilding the House the Big Brother format in Bulgaria was on hiatus until September 2008 when Big Brother 4 aired, followed by VIP Brother 3 in March 2009. The third celebrity edition introduced a unique conception in which celebrities performed for charity every week and they were even allowed to leave the House collecting money for their causes. This was the first season to air for two months. After the moderate success of Big Brother Family (also known as Big Brother 5) in 2010 the format went on another hiatus for two years. In 2012 it was announced that Nova TV had closed a deal with Endemol for two seasons of the Big Brother format in Bulgaria. In September VIP Brother 4 aired lasted for 63 Days (the longest celebrity season so far) and immediately followed by an all-stars edition. As VIP Brother proved to be a rating success, the show was renewed for another season in 2013 with VIP Brother 5 commenced on 15 September. In 2014 it was announced for communist rule (1944-1989) in VIP Brother 6. In 2015 VIP Brother 7 (also known as VIP Brother - 100% напудрен) was commenced on 13 September. In 2016 VIP Brother 8 (also known as VIP Brother: Играта загрубява) was commenced on 11 September and marked 10 years of the premiere of VIP Brother.
Format
Like the original Big Brother, VIP Brother is a game show in which a group of celebrities, called the Housemates, live in isolation from the outside world in a house, which includes everyday facilities such as a fully equipped kitchen, garden, bedrooms, bathrooms and living area. The House is also a television studio with cameras and microphones in all rooms to record the activities of the Housemates. The only place where housemates can escape the company of the other contestants is the Diary Room, where they are encouraged to voice their true feelings. Each week (twice a week in VIP Brother 1 and 2), all Housemates nominate two of their fellow contestants for potential eviction (in season one and two they had to give two negative points to one Housemate and one negative point to another). The two, or more, Housemates with the highest number of nominations face a public vote conducted by phone (text messages). In VIP Brother 3 voting was positive and only a few Housemates were eligible to nominate, pointing all contestants who would not face the public vote. Occasionally, more than one housemate may be evicted in a week.
Big Brother is a Dutch reality competition television franchise created by John de Mol Jr., first broadcast in the Netherlands in 1999 and subsequently syndicated internationally. The show started on 26 March 2007 and ended on 27 April 2007. It lasted for 33 days, 4 days longer than the previous season, because of the high ratings. The show was hosted by Niki Kanchev.
VIP Brother 3 was the third season of the celebrity version of the Bulgarian reality television show Big Brother. It was launched on Nova Television on 16 March 2009, and ended on 10 May 2009 with an eleven-hour season finale starting at 3:00 pm and finishing after 1:00 am.
Big Brother Albania is the Albanian version of the Dutch reality competition franchise Big Brother created by producer John de Mol in 1997. It follows a number of contestants, known as housemates, who are isolated from the outside world for an extended period of time in a custom-built house. The series started airing on 24 February 2008 on Top Channel and it has had nine seasons to date. Arbana Osmani hosted the first seven seasons and the ninth season. The show launched on Nova Television on 22 March 2010 and continued for 3 months, ended on 10 June. This was the shortest regular Big Brother season in Bulgaria so far, lasted for 81 Days.
Big Brother 5, also known as Big Brother: 100% натурален was the fifth season of the Bulgarian reality television series Big Brother, and the fifteenth season of the format overall. The series launched on Nova Television on 17 August 2015, seven years after the last regular season of the format since Big Brother 4.
VIP Brother 4, also referred to as VIP Brother 2012 was the fourth season of the reality show VIP Brother in Bulgaria and the ninth season of the Big Brother format overall. It commenced on Nova Television on September 16, 2012 and lasted for two months, ending on November 17, 2012. It was immediately followed by an All-Stars edition. It was the first season to air more than two years after the family edition and more than three years after the third celebrity edition. Niki Kanchev returned as the show's main presenter for the Live shows on Monday on Wednesday, with Aleksandra Sarchadjieva being the presenter for the daily episodes.
Big Brother All-Stars was the first season of the all-star spin-off of Big Brother and the tenth season of the Big Brother format in Bulgaria overall and featured housemates from previous seasons of the show, as well as from other reality formats such as Music Idol, Survivor and X Factor. The all-star edition commenced on 19 November 2012 on Nova Television right after the fourth-season finale of VIP Brother and lasted for a total of 29 days, ended on 17 December 2012. Together with VIP Brother 1 it holds the record for shortest season of the format in Bulgaria so far. Nikola Nasteski "Lester" won with Nayden Naydenov "Ned" as the runner-up.
VIP Brother 5, also referred to as VIP Brother 2013 was the fifth season of the reality show VIP Brother in Bulgaria and the eleventh season of the Big Brother format overall. It was confirmed by Nova Television on June 26, 2013 and commenced on September 15, 2013 and lasted for 63 Days, ended on November 16, 2013, holding the record for longest VIP season of the Big Brother format in Bulgaria together with the fourth season from 2012. Niki Kanchev and Aleksandra Sarchadjieva returned as main presenters. Stanka Zlateva won with Marian Kyurpanov as the runner-up.
Big Brother All Stars 2013 was the second season of the all-star spin-off of Big Brother and the twelfth season of the format in Bulgaria overall. It was confirmed by Niki Kanchev on October 21 during the fifth live eviction on VIP Brother 5. Followed the same air schedule as in 2012, it commenced on Nova on 18 November 2013, immediately after the VIP Brother 5 finale and lasted for a month, ended on 16 December 2013. It featured housemates from previous seasons of the show, as well as participants from other reality formats such as X Factor, Survivor and The cherry of the cake. Zlatka Dimitrova won with Leonardo Bianchi as the runner-up.
VIP Brother 6, also known as VIP Brother: Образцов дом was the sixth season of the reality show VIP Brother in Bulgaria and the thirteenth season of the Big Brother format overall. The promo for the new season began airing on Nova Television on July 25, 2014. The show commenced on September 15, 2014. Niki Kanchev and Aleksandra Sarchadjieva returned as main presenters.
Big Brother All Stars 2015 was the fourth season of the all-star spin-off of Big Brother and the seventeenth season of the format in Bulgaria overall. It was announced on November 13, 2015, on the official website. Followed the same air schedule as in 2012, 2013 and 2014, it commenced on Nova Television on 16 November 2015, immediately after the VIP Brother 7 finale and lasted for a month, ended on 14 December 2015. It featured housemates from previous seasons of the show, as well as participants from other reality formats. Desislava Doneva won with Vanja Džaferović "Džafer" as the runner-up.
Big Brother: Most Wanted 2017, also known as Big Brother All Stars 2017 was the fifth season of the all-star spin-off of Big Brother and the twentieth season of the format in Bulgaria overall. It was announced on November 3, 2017. Followed the same air schedule as in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, it commenced on Nova Television on 13 November 2017, immediately after the VIP Brother 9 finale and lasted for a month, ending on 11 December 2017. It featured housemates from previous seasons of the show, as well as participants from other reality formats. Georgi "Gino" Tashev won with Konstantin Slavchev as the runner-up.
Big Brother: Most Wanted 2018, also known as Big Brother All Stars 2018 was the sixth season of the all-star spin-off of Big Brother and the twentieth-second season of the format in Bulgaria overall. It was announced on October 19, 2018. Followed the same air schedule as in previous years, it commenced on Nova Television on 5 November 2018, immediately after the VIP Brother 10 finale and lasted for a month, ending on 10 December 2018. It featured housemates from previous seasons of the show, as well as participants from other reality formats. Stefan "Wosh MC" Ivanov won with Dzhuliana Gani as the runner-up.
Big Brother VIP is a spin-off series of the Australian version of the Dutch reality television franchise Big Brother. The series was announced on 30 March 2021 and is hosted by Sonia Kruger. The series premiered on 1 November 2021.
Big Brother VIP 2021, also known as Big Brother VIP 1 was the first season of Big Brother VIP, hosted by Arbana Osmani. The season began airing on 5 October 2021 on Top Channel, and ended after 137 days on 18 February 2022. The viewers can watch for the whole season live from the house in two live pay-per-view channels, with the name Big Brother VIP 1 and Big Brother VIP 2, which are available on Albanian TV platform DigitAlb. The two opinionists in the live evictions shows, were Arbër Hajdari and Balina Bodinaku. Dojna Mema hosted the spin-off show Big Brother VIP – Fans' Club and Iva Tiço was the opinionist. One week after the final of the show, was broadcast a reunion show, with the name Post Big Brother VIP. The three episodes were broadcast on 22 February, 25 February and 1 March 2022. The show was hosted by Arbana Osmani, and the two opinionists were Arbër Hajdari and Balina Bodinaku.
