Vee Hauntley, a teen vampire girl, leaves Transylvania to attend a performing arts boarding school. While living amongst humans, she pursues her passion for music and keeps her vampire identity a secret to hide from the Van Helsing vampire hunters, which becomes a challenge when her overprotective father sends an overzealous ghost to accompany her at the school, and one of her classmates tries to hide his identity as a Van Helsing himself.
On November 1, 2024, Disney Branded Television gave a series order to a live-action adaptation of Vampirina. The series is developed by Randi Barnes, who serves as the showrunner and an executive producer of the pilot. Barnes stepped down from showrunner duties for the rest of the season, and Dan Cross & David Hoge were hired to replace her. Tim Federle and Bronwyn North-Reist also serve as executive producers. Kimberly McCullough directed and served as an executive producer on the pilot. [2] On August 12, 2025, it was announced that the series, under the new title of Vampirina: Teenage Vampire, would premiere on September 12, 2025. It was also announced that there would be a special crossover episode with Wizards Beyond Waverly Place with Janice LeAnn Brown reprising her role as Billie, which will premiere on October 24, 2025. Vampirina "Vee" Hauntley is a teenage vampire with a passion for music. She dreams about performing at a concert in Los Angeles and revealing to the world that she is a vampire and the crowd attacks her as she pleads, promising that she is a good vampire. Vee wakes up and her ghost companion, Demi helps her pack for boarding school. Her father, Boris is hesitant about her leaving Transylvania for America due to humans, but he gives in because he wants his daughter to be happy. The next day, Vee flies into her room as a bat and quickly transforms into her human form before meeting her roommate, Sophie. They startle each other, but they quickly bond over their shared love for pop star, Millie Eyelash. Demi is in Vee's suitcase and they talk after Sophie leaves. He reveals that her father sent him there to protect Vee from Van Helsings, a family of vampire hunters. At the assembly, Vee sits with Sophie and they also meet two other students sitting behind them, a stuck-up girl named Britney and a nice guy named Elijah. At lunch, Vee and Sophie promise to always have each other's backs. When Britney and Elijah come over to their table, Vee reveals that she and Sophie are going to perform a song at the first year showcase. Sophie is nervous since Vee didn't ask her before she told them that, but they work on the song together in the music room. Demi is concerned that Britney might be a Van Helsing and he argues about it with Vee, as they both levitate in the air. Sophie walks in on them and screams after finding out that Vee is a vampire. Vee tries to chase her down and apologize for not telling Sophie her secret, which Britney hears and threatens to find out what it is and take her down. Vee hears Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 playing from behind a trophy case, which opens by itself and discovers that Elijah's dorm is behind it. She catches him dancing and he freaks out. Elijah has to keep his dancing a secret because his parents want him to study traditional vocal performance, but he is into hip-hop. The two bond for a little bit, but Vee had to leave to find Sophie. She eventually finds her in their dorm room and apologizes for keeping her vampire identity a secret, but Sophie still feels betrayed. At the performance, Britney's group finishes performing and Vee is up next. She performs alone and fangs out because she feels nervous without Sophie. Britney makes fun of Vee and tells Sophie she can be a producer for her group, just as long as she remains backstage. Sophie realizes she doesn't want to keep being backstage and goes out to reconcile with Vee. They perform together and Elijah joins in their performance and starts rapping. The three of them ultimately ended up winning the performance. Demi tries to force Vee to go home because he saw Britney's initials on her ring and thought it was "V.H.", but it ended up being "W.H.", standing for "Wilson Hall" since her whole family went to the school. Britney tells Vee she did a good job, but she tells her not to get used to her kindness. Elijah puts on a ring with the initials "V.H.", revealing that he is a Van Helsing. Vee and Elijah are still shaken up about the events that transpired at the dance. In the morning, they challenge each other to a fight, but end up backing out because it's their parents that are enemies, not them. They end up staying friends and promising to never hurt each other, but Demi threatens to hurt Elijah if he breaks that promise. As Vee, Elijah and Sophie are walking, Elijah finds his mother sitting in his dorm room. Vee finds her parents on her window in their bat form. They find out it's parents day at school and Vee and Elijah are nervous that their parents will cross paths. They do everything they can to keep their parents away from each other. At the assembly, Dean Merriweather calls for a stage fight with volunteers from the audience. Vee's mother, Oxana and Elijah's mother, Mrs. Summers both volunteer and do the sword fight. Vee tries to stop it, by asking Mrs. Summers to stand down, but she already did. Oxana and Mrs. Summers shake hands and the audience applauds them. Mrs. Summers realizes that she lost her family ring and Vee's parents offer to help. As Mrs. Summers almost reveals what the initials on the ring are, Elijah reveals that he loves hip-hop, rap and pop music. His mother angrily storms off and Elijah finds the ring and runs after her. The two talk about it and ultimately, Mrs. Summers is okay with Elijah switching his classes because she wants him to be happy.
