The Vice Chief of Air Staff (VCAS) is the principal deputy and second-in-command (S-in-C) of the Pakistan Air Force, reporting under the Chief of Air Staff. [1] The post is usually held by an Air Marshal, a three-star rank air force general, who is responsible for flight safety, intelligence, procurement, public relations, and the Air War College. [1]

The current VCAS is Air Marshal Zahid Mahmood Leghari. [2] He succeeded Air Marshal Ahmer Shehzad Leghari to the post on 21 March 2022.

The Vice Chief of the Air Staff (VCAS) is the deputy to the Chief of the Air Staff of India and second-highest ranking officer of the Indian Air Force. The VCAS is a PSO at Air Headquarters at New Delhi. In the event that the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) is absent or is unable to perform his duties, the VCAS assumes the duties and responsibilities of the CAS. The VCAS is normally held by an officer of three star rank and is held by an air officer of the rank of Air Marshal.

Tanvir Mahmood AhmedNI(M) HI(M) SI(M) SBt is a retired air chief of the Pakistan Air Force who was the Chief of the Air Staff from 2006 to 2009. He was succeeded by Rao Qamar Suleman on 18 March 2009.

Sardar Mushtaq Ahmed Khan Laghari is from Rahimabad. He was born in Choti Zareen. He is the son of Sardar Mohammad Akbar Khan Laghari. His paternal grandfather was Sardar Noor Mohammed Khan Leghari, founder of Rahimabad. His maternal grandfather Sardar Din Mohammed Khan Leghari, was given the title of Khan Bahadur on 12th December, 1911 and Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire and C.I.E. On 1st January, 1916. He was also the Leghari tribe's Tumandar.

The Pakistan Administrative Service, or PAS is an elite cadre of the Civil Services of Pakistan. The Pakistan Administrative Service over the years has emerged as the most consolidated and developed post-colonial institution in Pakistan, with the PAS officers of Grade 22 often seen as stronger than the federal government ministers. The service of PAS is generalist in nature and officers are assigned to different departments all across Pakistan during the course of their careers.
