Victoria Tin-bor Hui (Chinese:許田波) is a Hong Kong exiled pro-democracy activist and political scientist whose main interests include state formation,history of international relations,Confucianism,contentious politics,politics of China and Hong Kong. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame.
Hui earned a B.SSc. in Journalism and Communication from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1990. She completed her MA and Ph.D. in Political Science at Columbia University. [1] [2] [3]

Ted Hui Chi-fung is a Hong Kong politician. He formerly represented the Chung Wan constituency in the Central and Western District Council,and was a Legislative Councillor for the Hong Kong Island constituency. Fearing prosecution by the Government of Hong Kong,he announced his self-exile in Denmark and withdrawal from the Democratic Party in December 2020.
The 2019 Hong Kong District Council elections were held on 24 November 2019 for all 18 District Councils of Hong Kong. 452 seats from all directly elected constituencies,out of the 479 seats in total,were contested. Nearly three million people voted,equivalent to 71 per cent of registered voters,an unprecedented turnout in the electoral history of Hong Kong. The election was widely viewed as a de facto referendum on the concurrent anti-extradition protests.
Agnes Chow Ting is a Hong Kong politician and social activist. She is a former member of the Standing Committee of Demosisto and former spokesperson of Scholarism. Her candidacy for the 2018 Hong Kong Island by-election,supported by the pro-democracy camp,was blocked by authorities,due to her party's advocacy of self-determination for Hong Kong. She was arrested in August 2019,during the 2019–2020 Hong Kong protests,for her role in a protest at police headquarters two months earlier,and sentenced to 10 months in jail in December 2020. She was again arrested for the National Security charge of 'collusion with foreign forces' in August 2020,albeit released on bail the day after. After her early release in June 2021,she made no public announcements until December 2023,when she wrote on social media that she had already moved to Canada in September that year to study for a master's degree at a university in Toronto,and decided to go into exile.

The 2021 Hong Kong Legislative Council election was a general election held on 19 December 2021 for the 7th Legislative Council of Hong Kong. Under the drastic Beijing-imposed electoral overhaul,the total number of seats was increased from 70 to 90 seats,with the directly elected geographical constituencies (GCs) reduced from 35 to 20 seats,the trade-based indirectly elected functional constituencies (FCs) staying at 30,and the additional 40 seats being elected by the 1,500-member Election Committee. therefore still not allowing universal suffrage.
Glacier Chung Ching Kwong is a political activist from Hong Kong. She is a PhD candidate in law at the University of Hamburg. She is also currently the Hong Kong Campaigns Coordinator at Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China. She was previously the Digital Rights Research Fellow at Hong Kong Democracy Council (HKDC),a leading organization for the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong and Hong Kongers overseas led by fellow activist Samuel Chu. Back in the days in Hong Kong,she was the spokesperson of the non-governmental organization (NGO) Keyboard Frontline,monitoring privacy abuses and censorship on the web.
Cheng Tat-hung,also known as Tat Cheng,is a Hong Kong politician,formerly affiliated with the Civic Party. He was a member of Eastern District Council for Tanner from 2016 to 2021.
In the subsequently postponed 2020 Hong Kong Legislative Council election,12 opposition candidates were disqualified by the returning officers from running in the election,including four incumbent legislators,Alvin Yeung,Kwok Ka-ki,Dennis Kwok and Kenneth Leung,as well as activists Joshua Wong,Ventus Lau,Gwyneth Ho and Cheng Kam-mun and incumbent District Councillors Lester Shum,Tiffany Yuen,Fergus Leung and Cheng Tat-hung.
Finn Lau Cho-dik is a political activist from Hong Kong known for popularising a protesting strategy coined "Lam Chau" and being the founder of Hong Kong Liberty and Stand with Hong Kong. He was previously only known as the LIHKG user with the username "I want Lam Chau". On 5 October 2020,he publicised his real identity as Finn Lau and announced that he,as the founder of both teams,would split Hong Kong Liberty and Stand with Hong Kong. The two organisations are currently operating separately.
The Hong Kong National Security Law is a piece of national security legislation passed on 30 June 2020 which was a major factor,besides the COVID-19 pandemic and its accompanying gathering regulations,in essentially ending the anti-extradition bill protests. The law established the crimes of secession,subversion,terrorism,and collusion with foreign organisations. Implementation of the law entitles authorities to surveil,detain,search and extradite persons suspected under its provisions to Mainland China.
The 32nd anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests featured events in China and elsewhere on,and leading up to,4 June 2021 –to commemorate the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre,in which the government of China ordered the army to fire on protestors,killing hundreds,if not thousands,of people.
Hong Kong Democracy Council (HKDC) is a Washington,D.C.–based nonpartisan,non-governmental organization advocating for Hong Kong's autonomy. Formed during the 2019 Hong Kong protests,HKDC was one of the largest groups of exiled activists following the imposition of national security law in 2020 by Chinese government.
Few protests took place in December 2020 and there was no large-scale demonstrations in threat of the national security law. The imprisonment of Joshua Wong,Agnes Chow and Ivan Lam on 2 December aroused attention of the International community.
A dramatic manifestation of the far reach of the Hong Kong national security law was the mass arrest of 54 pro-democracy activists on 6 January. The arrested stood accused of subverting state power,a crime under the national security law,for their participation as candidates or in other capacities,in the 2020 Hong Kong pro-democracy primaries,which was part of a plan to increase pressure in parliament for democratic reform. Most of them were released on bail the following day. For the first time,the National Security Department of the police cited the national security law to block the website of HKChronicles. There were also several convictions in relation to the 2019-2020 Hong Kong protests.
