Vinay Mittal (born 20 June 1953) [4] is an Indian Civil servant who worked for the Indian Railway Traffic Service. He served as Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission from January 2018 to June 2018 and Chairman of Railway Board from July 2011 to June 2013. [5]
Born in Saharanpur,Uttar Pradesh,Vinay Mittal studied at the Doon School,Dehradun. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts(Hons.) in English literature from the St. Stephen's College,Delhi. Mittal studied law at the Delhi University. [4]
He joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service in 1975. [4] He served as the Divisional Railway Manager,Bilaspur;Additional general manager,Central Railway and general manager,North Western Railway from 2009 to 2011. [4] Mittal also worked as the executive director,Traffic Transportation (Movement) in the Railway Board. [2]
Mittal served as the Chairman,Railway Board (CRB) from 1 July 2011 [6] to 30 June 2013. [3] In his capacity as the Chairman of the Railway Board,Mittal functioned as the Ex-Officio Chairman of the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India. During Mittal's tenure,the project of the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India achieved much progress including completion of over 90% of land acquisition,obtaining necessary environmental and forest clearances,etc. [4] Mittal played a major role in ensuring that all the Public Sector Undertakings under the Indian Ministry of Railways (expect the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India and Indian Railway Finance Corporation were granted autonomy with the redesignation of their Heads of Office as Chairman-cum-Managing Directors. Vinay Mittal has been awarded prestigious Railway Minister's Award (MR Award) in 1981.
He was honoured with the Certificate in Transport Management and Containerization by the University of Wales,College of Cardiff,United Kingdom and received the Best Project Award by the Department of Maritime Studies and International Transport. During his tenure as general manager,North Western Railway from 2009 to 2011,the North Western Railway zone achieved significant infrastructural and operational improvements. The North Western Railway zone won 5 inter-railway Shields [7] in 2011 during the 56th Railway Week celebrations. [4]
He was appointed as a Member of the Union Public Service Commission on 8 August 2013. He served as the Commission's Chairman from 22 January 2018 to 19 June 2018. [1]

Rewari Junction railway station,station code RE,is a major railway station of the Indian Railways serving the city of Rewari in the Indian state of Haryana. The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor or Western DFC is a 1,506 km long,under-construction 1,676 mm freight corridor in India. It will connect Dadri in Uttar Pradesh with Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Navi Mumbai,Raigad District,Maharashtra. The corridor is being built by the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL),a public-sector unit (PSU) under the Ministry of Railways and would be electrified with double-line operation. The Western DFC entails a new single-line branch from Prithla in Palwal district to Tughlakabad in Delhi,running parallel to the existing New Delhi–Faridabad–Palwal railway line.
Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor or Eastern DFC is a broad gauge freight corridor in India. The railway will run between Ludhiana in Punjab and Dankuni in West Bengal via Meerut and Khurja in Uttar Pradesh. This railway line is one of the multiple freight corridors being constructed by the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL),a public-sector unit (PSU) under the Ministry of Railways.
The Indian locomotive class WAG-12B is a class of 25 kV AC electric locomotives that was developed in 2017 by Alstom with technological collaboration with Indian Railways. The model name stands for wide gauge(W),Alternating Current (A),Goods traffic (G) locomotive-12 . They entered trial service in 2019. A total of 370 WAG-12B have been built at Electric Locomotive Factory,Madhepura,Bihar,India.
Dadri railway station is a railway station serving the city of Dadri in Gautam Buddh Nagar district,Uttar Pradesh,India,on the Delhi–Aligarh–Kanpur section,around 50 km east of Delhi. Its station code in Indian Railways terminology is DER. Dadri is a wayside station at which only a few commuter trains stop. The station consists of four platforms which are not well sheltered and lack most facilities including sanitation.
