The men's tournament in volleyball at the 2018 Asian Games was the 18th edition of the event at an Asian Games, organised by the Asian volleyball governing body, the Asian Volleyball Confederation, in conjunction with the OCA. It was held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 20 August to 1 September 2018. [1]
The 2018 Asian Games, officially known as the 18th Asian Games and also known as Jakarta–Palembang 2018, was a pan-Asian multi-sport event held from 18 August to 2 September 2018 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) originally awarded the games to Hanoi, Vietnam in November 2012, but the hosting rights were given up seventeen months later. Indonesia, which originally finished second in the bid, was considered as the strongest replacement candidate and eventually awarded the rights amid the 2014 games. Surabaya, the city put forward during the bid, was replaced by Jakarta and Palembang, having hosted the 2011 Southeast Asian Games together.
The Asian Volleyball Confederation, commonly known by the acronym AVC, is the governing body for the sports of indoor, beach and grass volleyball in Asia and Oceania. It has 65 member countries, mostly located in the Asia-Pacific region, but excludes the six transcontinental countries with territory in both Europe and Asia – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Turkey and Cyprus, along Israel – which are instead members of CEV.

Jakarta, officially the Special Capital Region of Jakarta, is the capital and largest city of Indonesia. Located on the northwest coast of the world's most populous island, Java, it is the centre of economics, culture and politics of Indonesia, with a population of ten million as of 2014. Jakarta metropolitan area is known as Jabodetabek, has an area of 6,392 square kilometres, which is the world's second-largest urban agglomeration with a population of 30 million as of 2010. Greater Jakarta is predicted to reach 35.6 million people by 2030 to become the world's biggest megacity. Jakarta's business opportunities, as well as its potential to offer a higher standard of living, attracted migrants from across the Indonesian archipelago, combining many communities and cultures.
