The WJ & JE Cearns Invitation is a greyhound racing competition held annually at Central Park Stadium. It was inaugurated at (Wimbledon) in 1951 as the W.J.Cearns Memorial Trophy [1] following the death of W.J (Bill) Cearns in 1950. [2]

W.J.Cearns was the founder of Wimbledon Stadium and chairman of West Ham United F.C. The event was held in his honour until 2006 when his grandson Roger Cearns (owner of Central Park) brought the competition to Sittingbourne. It was renamed the WJ & JE Cairns Invitation with the JE part being named after his father John who was also instrumental in the history of Wimbledon. [3]

Wimbledon Stadium, also known as Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium, was a greyhound racing track located in Wimbledon in southwest London, England.

The Grand National is an original classic greyhound racing competition held at Central Park Stadium over the hurdles. It was run at White City Stadium from 1928 until 1984, it moved to Hall Green Stadium in 1985 and then on to Wimbledon Stadium in 1999.

White City Greyhounds was the greyhound racing operation held at White City Stadium in London. The venue was regarded as the sport's primary track during its existence.

The Puppy Derby is a greyhound competition held at Towcester Greyhound Stadium.

William John Cearns also known as Will and Bill was a chairman of English football club West Ham United and Managing Director of Wimbledon Stadium.

The Champion Hurdle is a greyhound racing competition held annually at Central Park Stadium. Until 2017 it was held at Wimbledon Stadium but switched to Towcester Greyhound Stadium following the closure of Wimbledon.

The Juvenile is a greyhound racing competition held annually at Owlerton Stadium.

Ballynennan Moon was a famous racing greyhound during World War II. He is regarded as being the one of the greatest racing greyhounds and was denied the opportunity to win the English Greyhound Derby because of the postponement of the event during the war years.
