The McCalmont Cup is a greyhound racing competition held annually at Kilkenny Greyhound Stadium at St. James' Park, Kilkenny, Ireland. [1]

Contents

The competition is a feature competition in the Irish racing calendar organised by the Irish Greyhound Board. [2]

The event was won by three times Irish Greyhound Derby champion Spanish Battleship in 1954 & 1955 [3] and the competition was known as the Red Mills Stake & Kilkenny Cup from 1994-2005.

The Laurels is a greyhound racing competition held annually at Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium located in Bishopstown, west of Cork, County Cork, Ireland.

The 1950 Greyhound Derby took place during June with the final being held on 24 June 1950 at White City Stadium. The winner Ballymac Ball and his owner, Belfast bookmaker Tom F Nicholl, received a first prize of £1,500. The greyhound was trained by Stan Martin.

Spanish Battleship was a male fawn and brindle greyhound. He is celebrated as one of Ireland's greatest racing greyhounds.
