History

The station signed on the air on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1949;73 years ago. [4] It was originally a daytimer station, required to go off the air at night. It was started by Van T. Irwin, Jr., a veteran from WWII. The original studios were in the James Robertson Hotel on Commerce Street at 7th Avenue North.

In recent decades, it has aired Christian programming. In the 1970s and 80s, it played Southern Gospel music. In the 2000s, it changed its focus and aimed at Nashville's African-American community with urban gospel music.
