Walnut Grove is an unincorporated community in Collin County, Texas, United States. [2] [1]
The community is located along Wilson Creeek and Farm to Market Road 2478 (approximately 8-mile [13 km] northwest of McKinney) and is now mostly within the city limits of Propser. [3]
The community was first settled 1844 by the Searcy family, who had migrated from Kentucky. In the ensuing several years, more pioneers moved to area from Kentucky and Missouri. Soon a Presbyterian church was established, as well as a cemetery by 1863 (the year on the earliest marked graves). A school was established by the 1900s. However, for most of the of its history, Walnut Grove remained as a rural farming community. [2] Recently it has become more of bedroom community. [3]
In 1976, the Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church was designated as a Texas Historic Landmark. The historic marker states:
Organized in 1846 by the Rev. J.N. Vance, this fellowship was first called Union Congregation. In 1858 the name was changed to Walnut Grove. The first church building on this property, donated by D.M. Crutchfield, was erected in 1869. Camp meetings were often held on the church grounds. Today the congregation worships in this frame country church, built in 1886 and remodeled in 1968. [4]

The Old Stone Church is a historic sandstone church located in Kingwood Township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. It was built in 1837 and is now owned by the First Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hunterdon County. The church, described using its historic name, Old Stone Presbyterian Church in Kingwood, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 25, 2018 for its significance in architecture. The earlier church located here was a smaller stone building built in 1755, called the Old Stone Meetinghouse. The stones from this church were probably used to build the current one. The Kingwood congregation was established in 1728 and grew during the First Great Awakening, with Gilbert Tennent and George Whitefield preaching here in 1739.
Allen Depot was established in 1876 in the central ward of Allen, Texas. The train depot served as a water stop for the Galveston and Red River Railway chartered by Ebenezer Allen in 1848. By 1856, the Southeast Texas to Red River railroad would transition to the Houston and Texas Central Railway.
