The 2005 Men's World Water Polo Championship was the eleventh edition of the men's water polo tournament at the World Aquatics Championships, organised by the world governing body in aquatics, the FINA. The tournament was held in a temporary pool on Île Sainte-Hélène from 18 to 30 July 2005, and was incorporated into the 2005 World Aquatics Championships in Montréal, Canada.

Hungary has been the most successful country in men's tournament, while the United States is the only team to win multiple times at the women's tournament since its introduction. Italy is the first and only country to win both the men's and women's water polo tournaments.

Jordi "Chiqui" Sans Juan is a former water polo player from Spain, who was a member of the national team that won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States. Four years earlier, when his home town of Barcelona hosted the Games, he was on the side that captured the silver medal.

George Mavrotas is a former member of the Greek Parliament, while also being a retired Greek water polo player and associate professor in the School of Chemical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. In July 2019 he was designated as General Secretary of Sport in the Greek Government.

The 1999 FINA Men's Water Polo World Cup was the eleventh World Cup.

The 1997 FINA Men's Water Polo World Cup was the tenth edition of the event, organised by the world's governing body in aquatics, the International Swimming Federation (FINA). The event took place in Athens, Greece. Eight teams participated to decide the winner of what would be a bi-annual event until 1999.
