On December 3, 2011, the WCAL had its first-ever state football champion when Norwayne defeated Kenton 48-42 in the Division IV championship at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon. [3]

The name 'Norwayne' is derived from its location in northern Wayne County. The district was approved for consolidation in 1950 by merging the Burbank, Creston, and Milton Local (Sterling) school districts together, and the school opened in the fall of 1953.

The Ohio Cardinal Conference, which began play in 2003, is an OHSAA athletic league whose members are from Ashland, Holmes, Richland, and Wayne counties in Ohio. The conference name stems from the local legacy of the Cardinal Conference.

Ottawa-Glandorf High School, is a secondary school and only high school part of the Ottawa-Glandorf Local School District. The school is the largest in Putnam County. The school serves students who are in grades 9 through 12 from Glandorf and Ottawa as well as parts of Greensburg, Liberty, Ottawa, Pleasant and Union Townships.

The Principals Athletic Conference (PAC-7) is an Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) athletic league, formed in 1989, made up of seven schools from Stark, Summit, and Wayne counties. The PAC-7 is home to some of the biggest rivalries in Northeast Ohio high school sports: the Triway Titans vs. the Orrville Red Riders, the Fairless Falcons vs. Tuslaw Mustangs in "The Blue Cup", and the Manchester Panthers vs. the Northwest Indians.

Doylestown is a village located atop the highest point in Wayne County, Ohio, United States. It is surrounded by Chippewa Township and located 13 miles (21 km) southwest of Akron. The village was founded in 1827 when William Doyle laid out a 40-lot town site at the crossing of two Native American trails on a hilltop.

Wayne County Schools Career Center is a public vocational school located in Smithville, Ohio. The school derives its name from the fact that it primarily serves students from the public school districts and private schools located in Wayne County, Ohio.
