The Westmeath Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition organised by Westmeath GAA between the top Gaelic football clubs in County Westmeath. The winner of the Westmeath Championship qualifies to represent the county in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship, the winner of which progresses to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. The current champions are The Downs GAA, winning their 10th title in 2022.
The 12 teams that will compete in the 2023 Westmeath Senior Football Championship are:
Group 1: St Loman's, Killucan, Caulry, The Downs, Coralstown Kinnegad, Tyrellspass
Group 2: Garrycastle, Mullingar Shamrocks, Moate All Whites, Shandonagh, Athlone, Tang
Shandonagh gained promotion to the senior championship as a reward for their 2022 Westmeath Intermediate Football Championship victory, while Rosemount were relegated to the intermediate championship after six seasons in the top flight.

The Westmeath County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) or Westmeath GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Westmeath. The county board is also responsible for the Westmeath county teams.
The Westmeath Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organized by the Westmeath County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs in the county of Westmeath in Ireland. It is the most prestigious competition in Westmeath hurling.

Anthony Cunningham is a former hurler who has since managed various Gaelic football and hurling teams. He was manager of the Galway county hurling team between 2011 and 2015 and of the Roscommon county football team between 2018 and 2022. The championship was originally planned to start with a seeded group stage and then progress to a knock out stage, however due to the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic this format had to be changed. Instead, teams were drawn into four groups of three teams, before progressing to a knock-out stage.

Patrick Flanagan was an Irish Gaelic footballer and hurler who played for club sides Mullingar Shamrocks, The Downs, and St Loman's and at inter-county level as a dual player with the Westmeath senior teams. He usually lined out as a defender. Paddy married Judy Harte in August 1957. They had four children, Fergal, Brian, Kevin and Claire. They have six grandchildren, Paul, Aoife, Ailish, Niamh, Sean and Tara. Paddy was very proud of his children and grandchildren.
Luke Loughlin is a dual player of Gaelic games, who plays football for The Downs, hurling for Clonkill and also plays at senior level for the Westmeath county football team. He has also featured for the New York county football team.

The draws for the respective provincial championships took place at various stages between June and September 2022. The championship ran from 22 October 2022 to 22 January 2023.
Jason Daly is a Gaelic footballer who plays for St Loman's and at senior level for the Westmeath county team. He plays as a goalkeeper for both.
