Gabriele Susanne Kerner, better known as Nena, is a German singer-songwriter, actress, and comedian who rose to international fame in 1983 as the eponymous lead vocalist of the band Nena with the Neue Deutsche Welle song "99 Luftballons". In the same year the band re-recorded this song in English as "99 Red Balloons". Nena's re-recording of some of the band's old hit songs as a solo artist, produced by the co-composer of most of them, her former Nena band colleague and keyboard player Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen, rekindled her solo career in 2002. Combined with the success of the Nena band years, she has sold over 25 million records, making her one of Germany's most successful music artists.
"99 Luftballons" is a song by the German NDW band Nena from their 1983 self-titled album. An English-language version titled "99 Red Balloons", with lyrics by Kevin McAlea, was also released on the album 99 Luftballons in 1984 after widespread success of the original in Europe and Japan. The English version is not a direct translation of the German original and contains lyrics with a somewhat different meaning. In the US, the English-language version did not chart, while the German-language recording became Nena's only US hit.

Nena feat. Nena, also known as 20 Jahre – Das Jubiläums-Album is a studio album by German pop singer Nena. It contains new versions of her hits, some of them are duets with other singers, including Kim Wilde, Joachim Witt and Udo Lindenberg. The album was first released in 2002 with a red cover and reissued with a blue cover in 2003. Both releases exist in either standard or limited edition, the latter being supplemented with a bonus CD of live tracks. The songs on the bonus CD are also reworked, suggesting that Nena may have planned to update more of her back-catalogue, although there have been no further releases in this vein.
Carlo Karges was a German musician who became a guitarist and songwriter for the rock band, Nena. He wrote the lyrics of Nena's most famous song, "99 Luftballons", released in 1983. He was attending a 1982 Rolling Stones concert at the Waldbühne in West Berlin, when they released a large mass of helium balloons into the air. He wondered how East German or Soviet forces might react if the balloons crossed the Berlin Wall, and thus he conceived the idea for the song about a major war resulting from misidentification of a mass of balloons.

It reached No. 3 on the German charts, and the first single, "Wir sind wahr", was well received. The album was certified gold on 24 April 2010. It combines alternative rock with electropop on songs like "SchönSchönSchön", "Dreh dich" and "Geheimnis", while songs like "Es gibt keine Sicherheit", "Wir sind wahr" and "Made in Germany" are in the more familiar Nena style of pop rock. In April 2010, Nena embarked on an international Made in Germany Tour to support the album.

Made In Germany Live is a two-CD live album by German pop singer Nena, released on 17 September 2010. It contains her live performance at Berlin on 24 April 2010, with bonus tracks from concert dates in 2009 and 2010 on the special edition of the album. The bonus tracks include two songs by Nena’s first band, The Stripes. Of the 27 tracks featured in the album, 11 were from the “Made in Germany” album which the concert tour was promoting. Of the remaining 16, ten are songs from the 1980s and six from the 2000s, leaving Nena’s work from the 1990s completely unrepresented.
"Irgendwie, irgendwo, irgendwann" is a 1984 song by Nena which was a commercial success in Europe. Released initially as single, it's been also included on Nena's 1985 album Feuer und Flamme. Due to the success, many cover versions of this song appeared, including samples as well as other languages. "Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime" is an English-language variant of the song. In its various incarnations it has been Nena's second most successful song of all-time behind only "99 Luftballons". Both songs were written by Nena band members Jörn-Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen and Carlo Karges and between them have had in the 21st century a near duopoly of being the final rock song that Nena plays at the end of her live concerts.
