Sanele Sydow (born 1999) better known by his stage name WizTheMc, is a South African-German rapper, record producer, and songwriter based in Toronto, Canada. He is best known for his 2020 breakout single "For A Minute", which has over 66 million streams on Spotify. Since 2018, he has released 3 studio albums, 8 EPs, 1 compilation album, and over a dozen singles. He has also toured across Europe, United States, and Canada with artistes like A$AP Rocky, half•alive, Billie Eilish, Burna Boy, Future, Miley Cyrus, Skip Marley, and Alan Walker. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Early life

Sanele Sydow was born in 1999 in Cape Town, South Africa. At the age of 2 his family immigrated to Lüneburg, Germany where he grew up. [5]

Career

In 2015, Sydow and his friends formed a musical collective called "NO HOMES" in Germany. [6] The group was active for 2 years before they separated. In 2017, Sydow moved to Toronto to pursue a solo music career where he started writing songs and freestyling in his room.

In 2018, Sanele released his first two albums, Backin Toronto and Blessings in Disguise. He would go on and release multiple singles including his breakout single "For A Minute" [7] which has been featured on Grey's Anatomy , Facebook messenger, and the Netflix film He's All That (2021). [8] His third album Growing Teeth was released in January 2020. [9]

Afrobeats is an umbrella term to describe popular music from West Africa and the diaspora that initially developed in Nigeria, Ghana, and the UK in the 2000s and 2010s. Afrobeats is less of a style per se, and more of a descriptor for the fusion of sounds flowing majorly out of Nigeria. Genres such as hiplife, jùjú music, highlife and naija beats, among others, were amalgamated under the "Afrobeats" umbrella.

Made in Lagos is the fourth studio album by Nigerian singer Wizkid. It was released on 30 October 2020 by Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records. The album features guest appearances from Burna Boy, Skepta, H.E.R., Ella Mai, Tay Iwar, Projexx, Tems, Damian Marley, Terri and was executive produced by P2J. The deluxe edition was released on 27 August 2021. It features additional guest appearances from Buju and Justin Bieber. In support of the album, Wizkid embarked on the Made in Lagos Tour (2021–2022). The album received a nomination at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards for Best Global Music Album.
