The Yukon Green Party (French : Parti vert du Yukon) was a territorial green political party in Yukon, Canada. It was inspired by the Green Party of Canada. [2]

Its first leader was Kristina Calhoun, a stay-at-home mother, who has lived in Yukon since 2006. [3] [4] [5] The party began at a meeting in November 2010, and was registered in February 2011. [1] [6]

Frank de Jong led the party as its interim leader in the 2016 general election. Its platform in that election included electoral reform, legalizing marijuana, ending public funding for Catholic schools, and introducing a carbon tax in Yukon that would be offset by monthly refund payments to Yukoners. [7] [2] [8]

Frank de Jong has since moved out of Yukon. The party wanted to elect a new leader at a future annual general meeting, but ultimately failed to do so. [2]

The party did not run any candidates in the 2021 Yukon general election, and as a result was deregisted by Elections Yukon. [9] [10]

He joined the Green Party of Ontario in 1987 and became the party's first official leader in 1993 – a position he held until November 14, 2009, when he was replaced by Mike Schreiner. From 2017 to 2019 he was the leader of the Yukon Green Party. De Jong has also campaigned for federal office as a member of the Green Party of Canada.

Darius Mortimer Elias was a Canadian politician. He represented the rural Yukon electoral district of Vuntut Gwitchin in the Yukon Legislative Assembly from 2006–2016 as a member of both the Yukon Liberal Party and the Yukon Party.

Lois Moorcroft is a Canadian politician, who represented the electoral districts of Mount Lorne (1992-2000) and Copperbelt South (2011-2016) in the Yukon Legislative Assembly. She is a member of the Yukon New Democratic Party.

Kevin Barr is a Canadian politician, who served in the Yukon Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016. He represents the electoral district of Whitehorse West as a member of the Yukon Liberal Party. He is currently the Minister of Highways and Public Works and the Public Service Commission.

2021 Yukon general election

The 2021 Yukon general election was held on April 12, 2021 to return members of the 35th Yukon Legislative Assembly. The election resulted in a hung parliament with the incumbent governing party, Yukon Liberal Party, and the opposition Yukon Party tied with 8 seats each, while the Yukon New Democratic Party held the remaining 3.
