Zigama Credit and Savings Bank (ZCSB), is a microfinance bank in Rwanda. The bank is one of the financial institutions licensed by the National Bank of Rwanda, the national banking regulator. [3]

History

ZCSB was established in 1997 as Zigama Credit & Savings Society (ZCSS), also referred to as Zigama CSS, with its primary mission to serve the welfare of Rwanda's military families. [4] In 2011, the institution received a commercial banking license and rebranded to its current name. [5] Since Its formation, the cooperative bank has accepted membership from Rwanda Police Force and Rwanda Correctional Services. [6]

Overview

The bank is a licensed cooperative bank, serving its members in Rwanda. [7] As of December 2012, the total asset valuation of the institution was in excess of US$143 million (RWF:90 billion). [8]

Ownership

As of December 2011, the detailed shareholding in the stock of Zigama Credit and Savings Bank are not publicly known. The bank is majority owned and administered by members of the Rwanda Defence Forces. [9]

Gitarama was one of the former twelve provinces (intara) of Rwanda and was situated in the centre of the country, to the west of the capital Kigali. Gitarama Prefecture was created in 1959, increasing the number of prefectures of Rwanda from eight to nine. In 2002, it was renamed a province, as were the other prefectures of Rwanda. It had an area of 2,187 square kilometres and a population of some 851,451 prior to its dissolution in January 2006. Gitarama was divided into 8 districts: Muhanga, Kayumbu, Kabagali, Ntenyo, Kamonyi, Ntongwe, Ndiza and Ruyumba; and two towns: Ruhango and Gitarama. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kigali is an ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Rwanda. It was erected from the Archdiocese of Kabgayi by Pope Paul VI on April 10, 1976, with the suffragan sees of Butare, Byumba, Cyangugu, Gikongoro, Kabgayi, Kibungo, Nyundo, Ruhengeri. Prosper Mugiraneza is a former minister of civil service in Rwanda. Mugiraneza was born in 1957 in Kigarama, Kibungo Province, Rwanda. He is a graduate of the National University of Rwanda in Butare, where he earned a law degree . Before becoming minister of civil service, Mugiraneza was a trial attorney in Byumba prefecture, a chief prosecutor in Gisenyi prefecture, a chief prosecutor in Kigali capital, Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice and minister of labour and social affairs. He is married and has four children. His wife and children currently reside in Europe.
