Charleston is the most populous city in, and the capital of, the U.S. state of West Virginia. Located at the confluence of the Elk and Kanawha rivers, the population during the 2016 Census Estimate was 49,138. The Charleston metropolitan area as a whole had 217,916 residents. Charleston is the center of government, commerce, and industry for Kanawha County, of which it is the county seat.
The Shenandoah Valley is a geographic valley and cultural region of western Virginia and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia in the United States. The valley is bounded to the east by the Blue Ridge Mountains, to the west by the eastern front of the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians, to the north by the Potomac River and to the south by the James River. The cultural region covers a larger area that includes all of the valley plus the Virginia highlands to the west, and the Roanoke Valley to the south. It is physiographically located within the Ridge and Valley province and is a portion of the Great Appalachian Valley.
West Virginia University (WVU) is a public, land-grant, space-grant, research-intensive university in Morgantown, West Virginia, United States. Its other campuses include the West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Beckley and Potomac State College of West Virginia University in Keyser; and a second clinical campus for the University's medical and dental schools at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston. WVU Extension Service provides outreach with offices in all of West Virginia's 55 counties. Since 2001, WVU has been governed by the West Virginia University Board of Governors.
HEPES is a zwitterionic organic chemical buffering agent; one of the twenty Good's buffers. HEPES is widely used in cell culture, largely because it is better at maintaining physiological pH despite changes in carbon dioxide concentration when compared to bicarbonate buffers, which are also commonly used in cell culture. The dissociation of water decreases with falling temperature, but the dissociation constants (pK) of many other buffers do not change much with temperature. HEPES is like water in that its dissociation decreases as the temperature decreases. This makes HEPES a more effective buffering agent for maintaining enzyme structure and function at low temperatures. Lepe-Zuniga et al. reported a phototoxicity of HEPES when exposed to ambient light by the production of hydrogen peroxide, which is not a problem in bicarbonate-based cell culture buffers. It is therefore strongly advised to keep HEPES-containing solutions in darkness as much as possible.

The Zigler Art Museum is an art museum located inside of City Hall in Jennings, Louisiana. The permanent collection of the museum represents major movements in art from the Nineteenth Century to the present. Established in 1970 by Ruth Zigler with twenty works of art and nine dioramas, the collection has grown to include over six hundred objects.

Tunker House, also known as the Yount-Zigler House, is a historic home located near Broadway, Rockingham County, Virginia. The house consists of a two-story, three bay, brick main block, with a brick and frame rear ell. The brick portion of the rear ell is the oldest section and dates to about 1798. It was later raised to a full two stories in the 1830s. The main block was added between 1802 and 1806. From the early-19th century until 1830 the house was used for religious services by the German Baptists. It was the home of Peter Nead (1796-1877), from the time he married Elizabeth, the daughter of the builder Benjamin Yount, in 1825, until 1839.
Mitchell Carmichael born April 15, 1960) is an American politician and a Republican member of the West Virginia Senate representing District 4 since 2012. Carmichael served consecutively in the West Virginia Legislature from 2000 through 2012 in the West Virginia House of Delegates representing District 12. Carmichael was a candidate for Governor of West Virginia in 2011. As President of the state Senate since January 2017, he holds the title Lieutenant Governor of West Virginia.

The Spartans were led by fourth-year head coach Ron Caragher and played their home games at Spartan Stadium. They were members of the Mountain West Conference in the West Division. They finished the season 4–8, 3–5 in Mountain West play to finish in a three-way tie for third place in the West Division.
