Sinlung, is the ancestral home of the Chin/Kuki/Mizo people. The Mizo, Hmars, and other Zo people trace their origin to Chhinlung (Sinlung) region. The Vaiphei people are a Zomi ethnic group who live in the North-East Indian state of Manipur and in the Chin State of Myanmar. They share cultural similarities with other tribes in the region like Paite, Thadou, Simte, Hmar, Sou, Gangte and Kom.

Rochunga Pudaite was an Indian minister of Hmar descent. He translated the Bible into the Hmar language and founded Bibles for the World. He was a renowned speaker and an evangelist. His organisation, Bibles for the World, has allowed distribution of the Christian Bible to millions of people around the world, by mailing Bibles in different languages to them.

Vanglaini is a daily newspaper in Mizoram, northeast India, published in the Mizo language. It is registered with the Registrar of Newspapers for India. It is owned, edited, and published by K. Sapdanga. It remains the newspaper in Mizoram with the largest circulation.

The Hmar People's Convention (HPC) was established as a political party in 1986. The group advocates for the rights of members of the Hmar people, one of the smaller tribes of northeastern India.

Chiru (Naga) is a Southern Naga language spoken mostly in Manipur. The Chiru population numbers approximately 8,599. It is an endangered spoken in three districts of Manipur: Senapati, Noney district of Manipur and Cachar district of Assam. Chiru has been recognized as a Scheduled Tribe of Manipur by the government of India since 1956 under "The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Orders (Amendment) Act, Act No. 63 of 1956" Dated 25 September 1956. The total population of the native speakers of Chiru is only 8599. The native speakers have high proficiency in Meitei language. The language is neither used in schools nor in radio or mass media. Older people read and write in Meitei language. The younger generation of Chiru speakers prefers Roman script. The speakers of this language use Meitei language as their second language (L2) according to the Ethnologue.

The Saihriem language is spoken by a mixture of the Saihriem/Faihriem people- a sub tribe of Hmar group of tribes of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo and other ethnically closely related people such as the Aimol, Kuki, Vaiphei, in four neighbouring villages around Dwarbond in Bojalenga Block of Cachar District, Assam.

The Hmar languages or Hmaric languages are a subbranch of the Kukish branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family which comprises Hmar proper (Khawsak), Biate, Hrangkhol, Sakachep, Zote, Darlong, Thiek, Saihriem (Faihriem) and others. The Hmar languages are often treated as dialects of a single language, since differences between them are reportedly minor. The speakers of the language are also known as Hmar.

Lalnghinglova Hmar is a journalist and sports promoter in Mizoram, India. He works as the joint editor of Vanglaini, a leading daily newspaper in Mizo language. He is also currently the honorary secretary of the Mizoram Football Association, executive committee member of the All India Football Federation, and chairman of the AIFF League Committee. Through his journalism and sports activities, he has been credited with the revolution of football in Mizoram. He helped to establish the Mizoram Premier League, for which he is recognised as the father of Mizo football.
