Kampong Tumasek (Malay : Kampung Tumasek) or simply known as Tumasek, is an area in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei, as well as a village within Mukim Kianggeh in Brunei-Muara District. The population was 673 in 2016. [1] It has the postcode BA2112. [2]
When the Hindu Empire of Majapahit in Java rose to power in the 15th century, Brunei, a kingdom of the Sumatran Buddhist Srivijaya Empire, fell. Islam was introduced in Brunei through the Sultanate of Tumasek (formerly known as Singapore), although recent research suggests that this may have happened as early as the 13th century. The sultans of Borneo eventually gained independence. [3]

Bandar Seri Begawan is the capital and largest city of Brunei. The Royal Brunei Mausoleum is a Royal Mausoleum of Brunei located at Jalan Tutong, Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. The Mausoleum is the main resting place and burial ground for several Sultans of Brunei and members of the Royal Family. The Royal Mausoleum was opened during the reign of Sultan Omar 'Ali Saifuddin I who later became the first monarch to be buried in the Mausoleum when he died in 1795.
Dato Seri Paduka Haji Marsal bin Maun was the second Menteri Besar, who served from 1961 to 1962. It was during his tenure as Menteri Besar that the Brunei Revolt broke out. He was one of the person responsible for the establishment of the Federation of Brunei Malay Teachers (PGGMB) and Brunei Scout Movement, which both still run till today. Pengiran Anak Mohamed Alam OBE was a nobleman and politician who became the fourth Speaker of the Brunei Legislative Council from 1971 until 1974 and Chief of Jabatan Adat Istiadat Negara from 1954 to 1981. He is the father of Pengiran Anak Saleha, the queen consort of Hassanal Bolkiah, the current Sultan of Brunei. He was also a maternal grandfather of Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince.

The Istana Banderung Kayangan is a 20th century royal palace that served as the former residence of Omar Ali Saifuddien III, the 28th Sultan of Brunei. The palace is situated in Kampong Tumasek, next to Istana Darul Hana surau and the rear entrance to Istana Nurul Iman. Another name for the palace is Istana Tumasek.
