The 2016 IIFA Awards, officially known as the 17th International Indian Film Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the International Indian Film Academy honouring the best Hindi films of 2015, took place on 25 June 2016. [2] The official ceremony took place on 25 June 2016 in IFEMA, Madrid, Spain. [3] The nominations were announced on 26 May 2016. [4]

Bajirao Mastani led the ceremony with 8 nominations, followed by Bajrangi Bhaijaan with 7 nominations and Piku with 6 nominations.

Bajirao Mastani won 13 awards, including Best Director (for Sanjay Leela Bhansali), Best Actor (for Ranveer Singh), and Best Supporting Actress (for Priyanka Chopra), thus becoming the most-awarded film at the ceremony.

Deepika Padukone received dual nominations for Best Actress for her performances in Bajirao Mastani and Piku, winning for the latter.

Bajirao Mastani is a 2015 Indian Hindi-language epic historical tragedy film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who co-produced it with Eros International and composed its soundtrack. The film stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra with Tanvi Azmi, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi, Milind Soman, Mahesh Manjrekar and Aditya Pancholi in supporting roles. Based on Nagnath S. Bajirao Mastani is the soundtrack album, composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali with assistance by Shreyas Puranik and Devrath to the 2015 Hindi film of the same name. Sanchit Balhara started his career as a solo composer and became best known for composing the score of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 2015 epic historical romance film, Bajirao Mastani. Sanchit's elder brother, Ankit Balhara, joined him in 2018, and the duo have been composing together since Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.

"Deewani Mastani" is a song from the 2015 Hindi film Bajirao Mastani. The song is composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and sung by Shreya Ghoshal, while backing vocals were given by Ganesh Chandanshive, Mujtaba Aziz Naza, Altamash Faridi, Farhan Sabri. The lyrics were majorly penned by Siddharth-Garima. Ganesh Chandanshive penned the Marathi lyrics while the Qawwali lyrics were written by Nasir Faraaz. The song features Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra in the video. The movie was dubbed in Tamil and Telugu and hence the song was also released as "Thindaadi Poagiraen" in Tamil and "Mastani" in Telugu on 25 November 2015. Shreya Ghoshal rendered her voice to all the three versions of the song. The song was reprised in MTV Unplugged Season 6 and was also rendered by Ghoshal.

"Mohe Rang Do Laal" is a song from the 2015 Hindi film, Bajirao Mastani. It was composed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Pandit Birju Maharaj. The lyrics were written by Siddharth-Garima. The song features Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in the video. Padukone took Kathak dance lessons from Pandit Birju Maharaj, who also choreographed the song. The movie was dubbed into Tamil and Telugu and hence the song was also released as "Podhai Nirathai Thaa" in Tamil and "Meera Chittachora" in Telugu on 15 December 2015. Shreya Ghoshal and Pandit Birju Maharaj sang in all the three versions of the song. The song was reprised in MTV Unplugged season 6 and was also sung by Ghoshal.

Maxima Basu is an Indian fashion designer, actress and director. She was the assistant director of Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire (2009). She has designed for popular Bollywood films like Ram Leela (2013), Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Dangal (2017), which became the highest grossing Indian film of all time, replacing senior designers Rushi Sharma and Manoshi Nath. She won the Filmfare Award for Best Costume Design in 2016 for Bajirao Mastani. She worked in Bajirao Mastani and Ram Leela as a team with designer Anju Modi, both shared 4 wins and 2 nominations jointly. Later, Maxima worked alone for Dangal.
