Elections to the second Odisha Legislative Assembly were held 1957. [1]
The elections were held for 140 seats of 101 constituencies. 62 constituencies were single-member while 39 constituencies were two-member constituencies. Out of 101 constituencies, 25 were reserved for Scheduled Caste, while 18 were reserved for Scheduled Tribe. A total of 517 candidates contested for these 140 seats. [1]
Three national parties, Communist Party of India, Congress and Praja Socialist Party along with the state party Ganatantra Parishad took part in the assembly election. Congress party emerged again as the winner by winning 40% of the seats with a vote share of 38.26%. [1] Harekrushna Mahatab again become the Chief Minister of the state.

The politics of Odisha are part of India's federal parliamentary representative democracy, where the union government exercises sovereign rights. Certain powers are reserved to the states, including Odisha. The state has a multi-party system, in which the two main parties are the nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the regional, socialist Biju Janata Dal (BJD). The Indian National Congress (INC) has also significant presence.
The first legislative assembly Election to the Madras state based on universal adult suffrage was held in 27 March 1952. This was the first election held in Madras state after the Indian Independence. This election was officially known as the 1951 Madras State Election, even though through delays, actual voting didn't take place until early 1952.
The second legislative assembly election to the Madras state was held on 31 March 1957. This was the first election held after the linguistic reorganisation of Madras State in 1956. Indian National Congress and its leader, K. Kamaraj won the election and defeated their rival, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. In 1954, due to the resignation of C. Rajagopalachari, for his controversial Kula Kalvi Thittam, the leadership of Congress was contested between K. Kamaraj, and C. Subramaniam. Eventually, K. Kamaraj, won the support of the party, was elected leader and chief minister of Madras State in 1954. In a surprise move, he appointed both M. Bhaktavatsalam and C. Subramaniam, to his cabinet, allowing great unity amongst the Congress that ruled the state of Madras, for the next decade. This election saw future DMK leaders M. Karunanidhi and K. Anbazhagan win their first MLA seats in the legislative assembly.
The Patiala and East Punjab States Union Legislative Assembly was the unicameral state-level legislative body of the Patiala and East Punjab States Union in India. Two elections to the assembly were held; one in 1951 and the second one in 1954. The assembly had 60 seats. The assembly used to meet at the Durbar (Court) of Qila Mubarak, the royal fort at Patiala.

The Kerala Legislative Assembly election of 1957 was the first assembly election in the Indian state of Kerala. The Communist Party of India won the election with 60 seats. The election led to the formation of first democratically elected communist government in India. The election also made Kerala as the first state to elect a Non-Congress party in the country.
Elections to the Mysore Legislative Assembly were held on 25 February 1957. 589 candidates contested for the 208 seats of the 179 constituencies in the Assembly.
