The 5th General Elections to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) were held on 24 March 2022 and the date of counting was on 26 March 2022. Out of 115 ULBs in the State, elections were held for 111 ULBs (47 Municipalities, 61 Notified Area Councils (NACs) and 3 Municipal Corporations) in the State. Voter turnout was 61.26%. [1] In this election, Mayors & Chairpersons were directly elected and None of the Above (NOTA) was introduced for the first time. They were held in concurrently with 2022 Odisha panchayat Elections. [1] In this elections, Odisha's Ruling party, Biju Janata Dal emerged victorious in all mayoral elections and 74 council chairpersons elections. [2] [3]
Election were held for 3 Municipal Corporations, 47 Municipalities & 61 Notified Area Councils (NACs). [1]

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is an Indian regional political party with significant influence in the state of Odisha. It was founded by the former minister of mines and minerals of the Republic of India Naveen Patnaik on 26 December 1997 as a breakaway faction from the Janata Dal. The BJD is led by its founder as president of the party. The headquarters of the party is located in Forest Park, Bhubaneswar.
Udala is a town and headquarter of Kaptipada subdivision of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha. It is also a NAC of Mayurbhanj district.
Balugaon is a town and a Notified Area Council in Khordha district in the state of Odisha, India. It is situated very close to Chilika lake, about 90 kilometres (56 mi) from the state capital Bhubaneswar, and 76 kilometres (47 mi) from the Berhampur, Ganjam. It is a major economic centre of Khordha district because of its prawn and fish business.

A nagar panchayat or town panchayat or Notified Area Council (NAC) in India is a settlement in transition from rural to urban and therefore a form of an urban political unit comparable to a municipality. Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is the local government in Guwahati, Assam, India. GMC was formed in the year 1971 by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Act, 1969. The corporation was duly constituted in 1974 in the first meeting of the elected councillors as per provision of Sec.45 of this Act.
In India, the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), also called municipalities, are self-government institutions responsible for the administration of cities, towns, and transitional areas within a state or Union Territory. The 74th amendment to the Constitution of India in 1992 provided constitutional framework for the establishment of Urban Local Bodies.

Cuttack Municipal Corporation is the municipal corporation governing the Indian city of Cuttack, which was earlier established as a municipality on 4 June 1876. The municipal corporation mechanism in India was introduced during British Rule with the formation of a municipal corporation in Madras (Chennai) in 1688, later followed by municipal corporations in Bombay (Mumbai) and Calcutta (Kolkata) by 1762. Cuttack Municipal Corporation is headed by the mayor of the city and governed by the commissioner. Cuttack is one of the oldest and major cities in India and the former capital of the state of Odisha. It was named a corporation on 15 August 1994. The corporation covers an area of 192.5 km2 with a population above 14,54,328. It includes road coverage of 783 km. with numerous drains of about 1729 km. It has set up 1,682 tube wells, 9,902 street lights, twelve medical dispensaries, one medical college cum hospital and forty-seven schools. It is now the financial centre of Odisha.
Salem City Municipal Corporation (SCMC) is a civic body that governs Salem city, Tamil Nadu, India. It consists of a legislative and an executive body. The legislative body is headed by the city mayor while the executive body is headed by a Chief Commissioner. This corporation consists of 60 wards and is headed by a Mayor who presides over a Deputy Mayor and 60 councillors who represent each ward in the city. SCMC is the fifth largest municipal corporation in Tamil Nadu. For administrative purposes, the Salem corporation is divided into four zones: Suramangalam, Hasthampatty, Ammapettai, and Kondalampatty. Each Zonal Office has its own Zonal Chairman and an Asst. Commissioner to take care of Zonal Activities.
Local bodies in Tamil Nadu constitute the three tier administration set-up in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a system of local government which forms the last level from the Centre. Chennai Corporation in the then Madras Presidency, established in 1688, is the oldest such local body not only in India but also in any commonwealth nations outside United Kingdom.

Soro is a city and a municipality in Balasore district in the Indian state of Odisha. It is about 181 km from the capital of the state Bhubaneswar and 35 km from the district headquarters Balasore. Located on NH-16, the city is located midway between Balasore and Bhadrak cities. Soro along with neighboring cities contributes significantly towards the economy of Balasore district.It has many important areas like Uttareswar, Adang Bazar, College chaka,Badkhuri chaka,Court chaka etc.
Subhash Chandra Singh is a social activist, people leader and policy maker from the State of Odisha, India. He is the first directly elected Mayor of Cuttack Municipal Corporation, acting Treasurer of Biju Janta Dal and General Secretary of Biju Sramika Samukhya. Previously he has also been member of Rajya Sabha from Odisha and has also served as National spokesperson for BJD. He was elected for Rajya Sabha on 24 March 2020. Being one of the most trusted senior leaders in BJD, he holds the position of Party Treasurer of Biju Janta Dal since 2016.
The state of Andhra Pradesh held urban local bodies elections on 30 March 2014. This included 10 Municipal Corporations, and 145 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats. Elections in the remaining bodies were not held due to issues such as court cases, delays in the preparation of electoral rolls, problems in the delimitation of wards, and the creation of new bodies.

2022 Madhya Pradesh local elections were held in July. The elections to 347 municipalities in Madhya Pradesh were held in two phases. On 6 July, polling was held for the 133 local bodies, while the polling in 214 local bodies was held on 13 July. In the second phase on 13 July, polling was held in five municipal corporations, 40 municipal councils and 168 nagar parishads.
Urban local bodies in Odisha, comprising municipal corporations, municipalities, and NACs, are established under the Dept. of Housing & Urban Development, Government of Odisha. The 74th Amendment Act defined their formation & activities.
