2022 Odisha municipal elections

The 5th General Elections to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) were held on 24 March 2022 and the date of counting was on 26 March 2022. Out of 115 ULBs in the State, elections were held for 111 ULBs (47 Municipalities, 61 Notified Area Councils (NACs) and 3 Municipal Corporations) in the State. Voter turnout was 61.26%. [1] In this election, Mayors & Chairpersons were directly elected and None of the Above (NOTA) was introduced for the first time. They were held in concurrently with 2022 Odisha panchayat Elections. [1] In this elections, Odisha's Ruling party, Biju Janata Dal emerged victorious in all mayoral elections and 74 council chairpersons elections. [2] [3]

Cuttack Municipal Corporation is the municipal corporation governing the Indian city of Cuttack, which was earlier established as a municipality on 4 June 1876. The municipal corporation mechanism in India was introduced during British Rule with the formation of a municipal corporation in Madras (Chennai) in 1688, later followed by municipal corporations in Bombay (Mumbai) and Calcutta (Kolkata) by 1762. Cuttack Municipal Corporation is headed by the mayor of the city and governed by the commissioner. Salem City Municipal Corporation (SCMC) is a civic body that governs Salem city, Tamil Nadu, India. It consists of a legislative and an executive body. The legislative body is headed by the city mayor while the executive body is headed by a Chief Commissioner. This corporation consists of 60 wards and is headed by a Mayor who presides over a Deputy Mayor and 60 councillors who represent each ward in the city. Local bodies in Tamil Nadu constitute the three tier administration set-up in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a system of local government which forms the last level from the Centre. Chennai Corporation in the then Madras Presidency, established in 1688, is the oldest such local body not only in India but also in any commonwealth nations outside United Kingdom.

The state of Andhra Pradesh held urban local bodies elections on 30 March 2014. This included 10 Municipal Corporations, and 145 Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats. Elections in the remaining bodies were not held due to issues such as court cases, delays in the preparation of electoral rolls, problems in the delimitation of wards, and the creation of new bodies.

The Municipal Corporation election held in Lucknow City on 4th May 2023 for electing the members (corporators) and mayor of Lucknow Municipal Corporation which governs Lucknow, the capital and the largest city of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

2022 Madhya Pradesh local elections were held in July. The elections to 347 municipalities in Madhya Pradesh were held in two phases. On 6 July, polling was held for the 133 local bodies, while the polling in 214 local bodies was held on 13 July. In the second phase on 13 July, polling was held in five municipal corporations, 40 municipal councils and 168 nagar parishads.


Local elections were held in the Indian state of Telangana on 30 April 2021 for 2 municipal corporations and 5 municipalities, namely Warangal, Khammam, Jadcherla, Achampet, Siddipet, Kothur, and Nakrekal.
