Padmapur is a town and a notified area in Bargarh district in the Indian state of Odisha. It is also a Subdivisional Headquarter and area wise biggest subdivision of Bargarh District.
Padmapur is located at 21°00′N83°04′E / 21.0°N 83.07°E . [1] It has an average elevation of 205 metres (673 ft). It is almost 75 kilometres (47 mi) from its district headquarters, Bargarh. It is about 440 kilometres (270 mi) from its capital city of Bhubaneshwar.
According to the 2001 India census, [2] Padampur had a population of 15,438. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Padampur has an average literacy rate of 69%, lower than the national average of 74.04%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 60%. In Padampur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
The Member of the Legislative Assembly from Padampur Assembly Constituency is Barsha Singh Bariha of BJD, who won the seat in General elections in 2024. [3]
Padampur used to be part of Sambalpur (Lok Sabha constituency). Now, it comes under Bargarh Lok Sabha constituency, which is now represented by Pradeep Purohit BJP. [4]
