Barry Hawkins is an English professional snooker player from Ditton, Kent. He turned professional in 1996, but only rose to prominence in the 2004–05 snooker season, when he reached the last 16 of the 2004 UK Championship, the quarter-finals of the 2004 British Open, and the semi-finals of the 2005 Welsh Open. Anthony Stephen Hamilton is an English professional snooker player. He has spent five seasons ranked among the game's elite Top 16 and fifteen in the Top 32, reaching a career-high of number ten in the world in the 1999/2000 season. Hamilton is a four-time World Championship quarter-finalist, a Masters semi-finalist and compiler of more than 300 competitive century breaks during his long career. He won his first ranking title in 2017, beating Ali Carter 9–6 in the final of the German Masters, doing so at the age of 45. Hamilton is the fifth-oldest person to win a ranking event, after Ray Reardon (50), Doug Mountjoy (46), Mark Williams (46) and John Higgins (45).
Judd Trump is an English professional snooker player from Bristol who is a former world champion and former world number one. Widely regarded as one of the sport's most talented players, he currently places sixth on the list of all-time ranking event winners, with 22 ranking titles.
The World Blitz Chess Championship is a chess tournament held to determine the world champion in chess played under blitz time controls. Since 2012, FIDE has held an annual joint rapid and blitz chess tournament and billed it as the World Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships. The current world blitz champion is the Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen.
Brendan Gabriel Dolan is an Irish professional darts player from County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He is best known for becoming the first player to hit a nine-dart finish in a double to start an event, which he did at the 2011 World Grand Prix. He lost to Phil Taylor in the final of the tournament; to date, it was his only appearance in a major final. Away from the television cameras, in floor events on the PDC Pro Tour, Dolan lost his first seven finals before winning his maiden ranking title in 2013.
Luca Brecel is a Belgian professional snooker player. He won the European Under-19 title at the age of 14 and is the youngest player to play at the Crucible Theatre after qualifying for the 2012 World Championship aged 17. In 2017, Brecel became the first player from mainland Europe to win a ranking event by defeating Shaun Murphy in the final of the China Championship. He reached his first Triple Crown final at the 2021 UK Championship, but lost 5–10 to Zhao Xintong.
Peter Wright is a Scottish professional darts player who plays in tournaments of the Professional Darts Corporation. He is currently ranked the world No. 2 on the Order of Merit, and is the current World Matchplay Champion. He also won the 2020 PDC World Darts Championship. Although Wright was largely brought up in England, he chooses to represent the country of his birth. Before becoming a professional darts player, Wright was a tyre fitter.
The World Curling Championships are the annual world championships for curling, organized by the World Curling Federation and contested by national championship teams. There are men's, women's and mixed doubles championships, as well as men's and women's versions of junior and senior championships. There is also a world championship for wheelchair curling. The men's championship started in 1959, while the women's started in 1979. The mixed doubles championship was started in 2008. Since 2005, the men's and women's championships have been held in different venues, with Canada hosting one of the two championships every year: the men's championship in odd years, and the women's championship in even years. Canada has dominated both the men's and women's championships since their inception, although Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Scotland, the United States, Norway and China have all won at least one championship.
Gerwyn Price is a Welsh professional darts player and former professional rugby union and rugby league player. Nicknamed "The Iceman", he competes in events of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), where he is the current world champion, after winning the 2021 PDC World Darts Championship, to become the first ever Welshman to win the tournament. Price's victory saw him overtake Michael van Gerwen in the world rankings, becoming the new world number 1.
Zhao Xintong is a Chinese professional snooker player. He won his first ranking title at the 2021 UK Championship, defeating Luca Brecel 10–5 in the final. With this win, he entered the top 16 in the world rankings for the first time at number nine, and became eligible to compete in his first Masters.
The 2021 PDC World Darts Championship was the 28th World Championship organised by the Professional Darts Corporation since it separated from the British Darts Organisation. The collapse of the BDO in September 2020 and subsequent postponement of the World Darts Federation-sanctioned event meant that this edition was the first undisputed World Championship in the sport since John Lowe won the Embassy in 1993. The event took place at the Alexandra Palace in London from 15 December 2020 – 3 January 2021, and was played behind closed doors, except for the first day of the tournament, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
