The Czech Republic, also called by its short-form name, Czechia, is a landlocked country in Central Europe bordered by Austria, Germany, Poland and Slovakia. The Czech Republic has hilly landscape that covers an area of 78,866 square kilometers (30,450 sq mi) with a mostly temperate continental climate and oceanic climate. It is a unitary parliamentary republic.

Kleť Observatory

Kleť Observatory is an astronomical observatory in the Czech Republic. It is situated in South Bohemia, south of the summit of Mount Kleť, near the town of České Budějovice. Constructed in 1957, the observatory is at an altitude of 1,070 metres (3,510 ft) and has around 150 clear nights per year.

Miloš Zeman

Miloš Zeman is a Czech politician serving as the third and current president of the Czech Republic since 8 March 2013. He previously served as Prime Minister of the Czech Republic from 1998 to 2002. As Leader of the Czech Social Democratic Party during the 1990s, he transformed his party into one of the country's major political forces. Zeman was Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of the Czech parliament, from 1996 until he became Prime Minister two years later in 1998.

The Dissolution of Czechoslovakia took effect on 1 January 1993 and was the self-determined split of the federal republic of Czechoslovakia into the independent countries of the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Both mirrored the Czech Socialist Republic and the Slovak Socialist Republic, which had been created in 1969 as the constituent states of the Czechoslovak Federal Republic.

SK Sigma Olomouc

SK Sigma Olomouc is a Czech football club from the city of Olomouc. The club currently plays in the Czech First League, the first tier of Czech football. The club played in the first tier league for 30 years between 1984 and 2014, winning the Czech Cup and Czech Supercup in 2012. Being relegated to Czech National Football League in 2014, the club won the league the subsequent season and got a promotion back to First League in 2015, but failed to stay in the top division and were relegated after only one season.

The Czech men's national ice hockey team is the national ice hockey team of the Czech Republic. It is one of the most successful national ice hockey teams in the world and a member of the so-called "Big Six", the unofficial group of the six strongest men's ice hockey nations, along with Canada, Finland, Russia, Sweden and the United States. It is governed by the Czech Ice Hockey Association. The Czech Republic has 72,075 players officially enrolled in organized hockey.

Petr Čech is a Czech professional footballer who currently has a combined role of a technical/performance advisor and an emergency goalkeeper for English club Chelsea. He also played semi-professional ice hockey as a goaltender for Guildford Phoenix. Lidové noviny is a daily newspaper published in Prague, the Czech Republic. It is the oldest Czech daily still in print. Czechia, the official English short name specified by the Czech government, is used by many international organisations and attested as early as 1841. Rytíři Kladno Ice hockey team

Rytíři Kladno is a Czech professional ice hockey team based in the city of Kladno. They are currently a member of the Czech Extraliga. The team president and owner is Jaromír Jágr, a famous former NHL player, who is currently (2019–20) playing in home games for the team in addition to his ownership and administrative roles. The team plays its home games at ČEZ Stadion Kladno.

The Czech National Football League, currently known as Fortuna národní liga due to sponsorship reasons, is the second level professional association football league in the Czech Republic. Before 2013 it was known as 2. liga or Druhá liga. The top two teams each season are eligible for promotion to the Czech First League.

HC Kometa Brno

HC Kometa Brno is a professional ice hockey team based in Brno, Czech Republic. They play in the Czech Extraliga. Kometa is the most successful ice hockey club in the Czech Republic with 13 Czechoslovak league championship titles. Holding three European Cup titles, Kometa ranks as the most successful Czech club in international ice hockey. The team HC Kometa Brno has won two Czech championships seasons, capturing the title in both 2016–2017 and in 2017–2018.

Dmitrij Jaškin Czech ice hockey player

Dmitrij Alexejevič Jaškin is a Russian-born Czech professional ice hockey player currently playing under contract with Dynamo Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He played five seasons for the St Louis Blues and one season with the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). Jaškin was selected first overall in the 2010 KHL Junior Draft by Sibir Novosibirsk, and was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the second round, 41st overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Czech Indoor Athletics Championships

The Czech Indoor Athletics Championships is an annual indoor track and field competition organised by the Czech Athletics Federation, which serves as the national championship for the sport in the Czech Republic. Typically held over two days in February during the Czech winter, it was added to the national calendar in 1993, the year of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. The main outdoor Czech Athletics Championships was held for the first time in the summer that year. The Czech Indoor Combined Events Championships are usually held separately from the other track and field events.
