The Eurovision Song Contest 1996 was the 41st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 18 May 1996 at the Oslo Spektrum in Oslo, Norway. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK) and presented by Ingvild Bryn and Morten Harket, the contest was held in Norway following the country's victory at the 1995 contest with the song "Nocturne" by Secret Garden.
Melodi Grand Prix, commonly known as Grand Prix and MGP, sometimes as Norsk Melodi Grand Prix, is an annual music competition organised by Norwegian public broadcaster Norsk Rikskringkasting (NRK). It determines its entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, and has been staged almost every year since 1960.
Anita Skorgan is a Norwegian singer-songwriter. She represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1977 (14th), 1979 (11th) and with Jan Teigen in 1982 (12th). She was also a backing singer at the 1981 and 1983 contests, and co-wrote the 1988 Norwegian Eurovision entry "For vår jord", which placed fifth.
Geir Rönning is a Norwegian-Finnish professional singer-songwriter from Ålesund. He later moved to the capital Oslo in the 1980s, and later on to Stockholm, Sweden, where he found opportunity to start a musical career. He later moved to Finland, which he represented in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005. He returned to Norway in 2006 to try unsuccessfully to represent Norway in Eurovision through a joint song with Jorun Erdal. In 2010, he had a comeback trying to represent this time Finland in Eurovision. The same year he also took part in the Swedish Idol 2010, coming seventh. Rönning has also performed multiple times together with well-known Swedish pianist Robert Wells and his international Rhapsody in Rock concept. Rönnings lives in Kauniainen, Finland.
Estonia was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 with the song "Kaelakee hääl", composed by Priit Pajusaar, with lyrics by Kaari Sillamaa, and performed by Maarja-Liis Ilus and Ivo Linna. The Estonian participating broadcaster, Eesti Televisioon (ETV), organised the national final Eurolaul '96 in order to select its entry for the contest. Thirteen songs competed in the national final and "Kaelakee hääl" performed by Maarja-Liis Ilus and Ivo Linna was selected as the winner by a jury panel.
"The Voice" is a song recorded by Irish singer and composer Eimear Quinn with music composed and lyrics written by Brendan Graham. It represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 held in Oslo, resulting an unprecedented fourth win in five consecutive years for a country in the contest, being Ireland's seventh overall win, and its last win to date. The single, released by Ainm Records, CNR Music and Polydor, peaked at number three in Ireland and number nine in Belgium, and was a top-30 hit in the Netherlands and a top-40 hit in the UK and Sweden. It features subliminal voices by Graham and Tracey Cullen.
Sweden was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 with the song "Den vilda", composed by Peter Grönvall, with lyrics by Nanne Grönvall, and performed by the band One More Time. The Swedish participating broadcaster, Sveriges Television (SVT), selected its entry through Melodifestivalen 1996.
Maria Haukaas Mittet also known as simply Maria is a Norwegian recording artist. She gained national recognition in 2004 for her participation in the Idol reality television series, and international recognition in 2008 as Norway's representative in the 53rd Eurovision Song Contest.
Ireland was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 with the song "The Voice", written by Brendan Graham, and performed by Eimear Quinn. The Irish participating broadcaster, Radio Telefís Éireann (RTÉ), selected its entry through a national final, which eventually won the contest.
Portugal was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 with the song "O meu coração não tem cor" composed by Pedro Osório, with lyrics by José Fanha, and performed by Lúcia Moniz. The Portuguese participating broadcaster, Radiotelevisão Portuguesa (RTP), organised the national final Festival RTP da Canção 1996 in order to select its entry for the 1996 contest in Oslo, Norway. The competition took place on 7 March 1996 where "O meu coração não tem cor" performed by Lúcia Moniz emerged as the winner following the votes from ten regional juries.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2010 was the 55th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Oslo, Norway, following the country's victory at the 2009 contest with the song "Fairytale" by Alexander Rybak. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK), the contest was held at the Telenor Arena, and consisted of two semi-finals on 25 and 27 May, and a final on 29 May 2010, tying with the 1999 edition for the contest hosted the latest. The three live shows were presented by Norwegian television presenters Erik Solbakken and Nadia Hasnaoui and singer Haddy N'jie.
The Netherlands was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 with the song "De eerste keer", written by Piet Souer and Peter van Asten, and performed by Maxine and Franklin Brown. The Dutch participating broadcaster, Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (NOS), selected its entry for the contest through Nationaal Songfestival 1996. NOS returned to the contest after a one-year absence following their relegation in 1995 as one of the bottom six entrants in 1994.
Norway was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 with the song "I evighet", written by Torhild Nigar, and performed by Elisabeth Andreassen. The Norwegian participating broadcaster, Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK), selected its entry through the Melodi Grand Prix 1996. In addition, NRK was also the host broadcaster and staged the event at the Oslo Spektrum in Oslo, after winning the previous edition with the song "Nocturne" by Secret Garden. This was the last of four Eurovision appearances as a main performer by Andreassen, a record shared with Lys Assia, Fud Leclerc, Valentina Monetta, and Peter, Sue and Marc.
Bosnia and Herzegovina was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 with the song "Za našu ljubav", written by Sinan Alimanović, Adnan Bajramović, and Aida Frljak, and performed by Amila Glamočak. The Bosnian-Herzegovinian participating broadcaster, Radiotelevizija Bosne i Hercegovine (RTVBiH), selected its entry for the contest through a national final, after having previously selected the performer internally. They finished on 22nd place out of 23 countries with 13 points. It was the worst result for Bosnia and Herzegovina until 2016.

Odd Einar Nordheim is a Norwegian musician and singer. He won the music talent competition Stjerner i sikte in 1996. He has released two albums under the name "OdD", Mind Your Head in 2001 and Not All Birds Fly with Ease in 2005. He was nominated for best pop solo performer under Spellemannprisen 2001.
