2000 ISSF World Cup

For the 2000 ISSF World Cup in the seventeen Olympic shooting events, the World Cup Final was held in October 2000 in Nicosia, Cyprus for the shotgun events, and in November 2000 in Munich, Germany for the rifle, pistol and running target events. [1]

50 meter pistol, formerly and unofficially still often called Free Pistol, is one of the ISSF shooting events. It is one of the oldest shooting disciplines, dating back to the 19th century and only having seen marginal rule changes since 1936. It is considered to provide some of the purest precision shooting among the pistol events. The target of this event has not changed since 1900, and the 50m distance has remained the standard since 1912. The sport traced back to the beginning of indoor Flobert pistol parlour shooting in Europe during the 1870s.

The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) is the governing body of the Olympic shooting events. It also regulates several non-Olympic shooting sport events. The Federation's activities include regulation of the sport, managing Olympic qualification events and quota places, as well as organization of international competitions such as the ISSF World Cup series and ISSF World Championships.

The ISSF World Cup was introduced by the International Shooting Sport Federation in 1986 to provide a homogeneous system for qualification to the Olympic shooting competitions. It still is carried out in the Olympic shooting events, with four competitions per year in each event. For the best shooters there is since 1988 a World Cup Final.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">ISSF World Shooting Championships</span> World championship in shooting

The ISSF World Shooting Championships are governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation. World Shooting Championships began in 1897, after the successful 1896 Summer Olympics, and although the ISSF was not founded until 1907, these early competitions are still seen by the organization as the beginning of a continuous row of championships. By this logic, the 2006 competition in Zagreb was called the 49th ISSF World Shooting Championships. These championships, including all ISSF shooting events, are held every four years since 1954. For the shotgun events only, there is an additional World Championship competition in odd-numbered years. These extra competitions are not numbered. In running target, there will be World Championships in Olympic years.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sergei Martynov (sport shooter)</span> Belarusian sport shooter

Sergei Martynov is a Belarusian 50 m rifle shooter. He is the 2012 Olympic champion in the 50 m rifle prone event.

Munkhbayar Dorjsuren is a Mongolian-German sport shooter. She was born in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, but moved to Germany and became a German citizen. She is the 1992 Olympic bronze medalist in the Women's 25 metre pistol for Mongolia and the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist in the same event for Germany. She competes in the 25 metre and 10 metre air pistol events.

The 2008 ISSF World Cup was the twenty-third annual edition of the ISSF World Cup in the Olympic shooting events, governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation. Four qualification competitions were held in each event, spanning from March to June, and the best shooters qualified for the ISSF World Cup Final, which was carried out in September in Minsk for the shotgun events, and in November in Bangkok for the other events. Apart from those who qualified through the 2008 World Cup competitions, the defending champions and all medalists from the 2008 Summer Olympics were also invited to the final. The host countries were also granted special wild cards.

The shotgun finals were originally scheduled for Istanbul, but were later moved to the Beijing Shooting Range Clay Target Field, while the rifle and pistol events will be held at a range in Wuxi. Apart from those who qualify through the 2009 World Cup competitions, the defending champions and the reigning Olympic champions will also be invited to the final. The host country may also participate with at least two shooters regardless of qualification.

Giovanni Pellielo is an Italian sport shooter. He won the silver medal in Men's trap at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and also earned a bronze medal in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and a silver medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and 2016 Rio Olympics.

Guy Starik is an Israeli sport shooter who has competed in four Olympics. He has won gold medals in shooting at both the European Championships and at four World Cups, and shares the world record in the 50 meter rifle prone competition.

Oğuzhan Tüzün is a Turkish sport shooter competing in the trap event. The 1.87 m tall athlete at 121 kg (267 lb) is a member of İstanbul Hunting and Shooting Sports Club and is coached by Diego Gasperini.


Torben Grimmel is a Danish sport shooter. Specialising in the ISSF 50m prone rifle event, Grimmel won the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. He was European Junior Champion in 1995. As of 2023 he has won fourteen ISSF World Cup medals, and two ISSF World Cup finals.

Petra Zublasing is an Italian sport shooter who won the 10 m air rifle event at the 2014 World Championships.

Péter Sidi is a Hungarian sport shooter. He has been world champion in the 50 m rifle 3 positions, as well as winning silver medals in the 300 m rifle prone and the men's 10 metre air rifle. He has also won bronze medals in the 50 metre rifle 3 positions and the 50 m rifle prone team event. He currently holds the qualification world record in 10 m Air Rifle.

This article details the qualifying phase for shooting at the 2020 Summer Olympics. 300 quota places for the Games are entitled to the shooters coming from their respective NOCs, based on the results at designated ISSF supervised Championships subjected to the ISSF rules from September 1, 2018, to June 6, 2021. Host nation Japan has been guaranteed twelve quota places with one in each of the individual events. Four quota places will be awarded to the shooters competing in each of the mixed team events, while the highest-ranked shooter, who has not qualified yet or whose NOC does not have a berth in any of the twelve individual events, will obtain a direct Olympic quota place through the World Rankings. The remaining twenty-four quota places are available to the eligible NOCs under the Tripartite Commission Invitation, with two in each of the individual event, to attain a maximum number of 360.

Ganemat Sekhon is an Indian sport shooter who specializes in skeet. At the 2021 ISSF World Cup in New Delhi, Sekhon became the first Indian to win a medal in the Women's skeet event of an ISSF World Cup. She is right handed and is right eye dominant. She is part of the Indian shooting team at the Asian Games, Hangzhou, China. She was part of the Indian women's skeet team along with Darshna Rathore and Parinaaz Dhaliwal, that finished fourth in the Asian Games shooting competitions.
